State Government has already delivered 28 river terminals and new docks in Pará
To the equipment delivered since 2019, seven more terminals under construction in the municipalities of Breves, Chaves, Mocajuba, Oeiras do Pará, among others, are now added.
The regions of Marajó, Baixo Amazonas, Tocantins, Guamá, and Tapajós have already been benefited with the delivery of 28 river terminals since 2019. The State Government, through the Pará Ports and Waterways Company (CPH), invests in the construction or reconstruction of these facilities and ensures better structure for workers and visitors of the spaces, in addition to encouraging tourism and qualifying the flow of Pará's economic production.
"Navigation is part of our people's daily life. In Pará, rivers are like roads, where people travel to work, study, and take care of their health. Each terminal we deliver brings more dignity, safety, and structure for those who depend on the waterway. This is how we strengthen the economy and improve the lives of those living in riverside areas. Our commitment is for the State to continue advancing," highlighted CPH president Hilton Aguiar.
The first delivery made by the State Government was the Terra Santa River Terminal, in Baixo Amazonas, in 2019, the first year of the current state administration. In 2020, three more terminals were delivered in the municipalities of Faro, Curuá, and Prainha, also in Baixo Amazonas. In 2021, the municipalities of Almerim, Santana do Tapará (Santarém), and Óbidos were awarded new terminals.
In 2022, the Government reached the mark of 10 new river terminals delivered in the municipalities of Monte Alegre, Santarém, Curralinho, Ponta de Pedras, Limoeiro do Ajuru, Santa Cruz do Arari, Cachoeira do Arari, Alenquer, Algodoal, and Portel. In 2023, five terminals were delivered in Marajó, in the municipalities of Muaná, Afuá, Bagre, Melgaço, and Anajás. In 2024, the most recent deliveries were in the municipalities of Soure, Acará, and Aveiro.
Carpenter Adair Silva, 45 years old, who currently lives in São Paulo, traveled from Santarém to the municipality of Óbidos to visit family. The last time he had traveled to the city was 25 years ago. "Arriving in Óbidos and seeing the city was a great positive surprise. The river terminals are comfortable, with a dignified structure to welcome visitors and residents," he highlights.
Seven more terminals are under construction in the municipalities of Breves, Chaves, Mocajuba, Oeiras do Pará, Senador José Porfírio, Salvaterra, and the District of Icoaraci in Belém. According to CPH, approximately 5 million passengers are currently transported by the State's waterway network, considering that out of the 144 Pará municipalities, 115 have river access, and more than half of them depend exclusively on this route to boost economic and social development.
