Rural producers, family farmers, livestock breeders, and representatives of properties need to seek the Agricultural Defense Agency of the State of Pará (Adepará) to update the registration of existing animals on rural properties in the State.

The new deadline for updating the herd has been extended until August 14, 2025. By this date, the rural producer or their legal representative must visit a unit of Adepará, bringing the complete list of all species kept on the properties, such as cattle, buffalo, horses, donkeys, mules, pigs, sheep, goats, birds, bees, and aquatic animals.

The presentation of the complete list of species kept on the properties, such as cattle, buffalo, horses, donkeys, mules, pigs, sheep, goats, birds, bees, and aquatic animals is mandatory

The international recognition of Pará as a foot-and-mouth disease-free area without vaccination led the Defense Agency to initiate a process of replacing the vaccine with risk-based surveillance, with constant actions of clinical inspection of animals susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease, mapping of properties, regular inspection of properties, and agricultural registration.

Director-general of Adepará, Jamir Macedo: intensified surveillance actions

“With the withdrawal of the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine, we are intensifying surveillance, control, and agricultural defense actions. We are giving rural producers another opportunity to declare their herd and all species existing on the property. Those who do not declare may face administrative sanctions, and even suspension of the issuance of the GTA (Animal Transit Guide),” said the director-general of Adepará, Jamir Macedo.

Update - The agricultural registration gathers the sanitary data of livestock that allows generating information and planning strategies for surveillance and animal health. It is mandatory for the rural producer to register to maintain the health of the herd free from diseases, according to Decree No. 5,741/2026, from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), meeting a requirement of the Unified System for Agricultural Sanitary Attention (Suasa) and the Sanitary Code of Terrestrial Animals, from the World Organization for Animal Health (OMSA).

The agricultural registration allows the management of information about the species present in the State; the knowledge of territories to develop strategies for prevention, mitigation, control, and eradication of diseases, promoting health, and the safe transit of the herd.

“Rural producers or legal representatives who have animals of any species on their property need to go to the Adepará in their municipality to update their registration. The local offices in Xinguara, Redenção, Tucumã, Pacajá, São Félix, and Novo Repartimento have received a reinforcement of 20 employees to assist rural producers,” informed the manager of Traceability and Agricultural Registration of Adepará, Barbra Lopes.

Service: The Agricultural Defense Agency of the State of Pará extends the Campaign for Updating Animal Registration until August 14, 2025. Rural producers or their legal representatives must seek the Adepará unit in their municipality, from 8 am to 5 pm, with the complete list of animals, including quantity, species, age, and sex. This stage of the registration update is mandatory in all municipalities of the State, except in the Marajó Archipelago.
