Inspection of vessels has joint action from the PM, Public Safety River Group (GFLU), and the Brazilian Navy

The rivers surrounding the city of Belém and the Metropolitan Region (RMB) also benefit from enhanced river safety actions, this third weekend of the "Operation Summer 2025," coordinated by the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense (Segup). The integrated teams have already conducted more than 40 inspections, and two vessels were seized this month of July.

The Public Safety River Group (GFLU), in partnership with the Brazilian Navy, the Independent River Police Company, and other river safety agencies, carry out preventive and ostensive actions to ensure safe leisure for those seeking the islands around the Metropolitan Region of Belém.

Head of Segup, Ualame Machado, says that Operation Summer also focuses on river safety with preventive actions

“The planning set up for the security demands developed for the month of July does not only cover the beaches and resorts most sought after by the people of Pará, in general, but also our islands and channels around the capital, which are also routes to other cities in Pará, and with that, we achieved good productivity in inspections, given that, during this period, the demand for leisure and entertainment increases, especially for those who remain in the RMB,” said the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense, Ualame Machado.

Seizures

On the morning of this Sunday, the 13th, a vessel traveling on the Guamá River, in front of the Portal da Amazônia, heading to Cotijuba Island, was approached by GFLU teams, along with the Brazilian Navy. The vessel named “Juliete” did not have complete documentation and was without the appropriate number of crew members, totaling about 400 passengers. The vessel was seized and the responsible parties notified.

Ensuring safe leisure for those seeking tours and fun on the islands is also a commitment of Operation Summer 2025

In three weekends of Operation Summer, the river safety teams have already conducted more than 40 inspections of vessels.

During this second weekend of July, from July 12 to 13, 17 approaches were made to vessels, four jet skis, and also to 13 commercial establishments, such as bars and restaurants.

On the last Friday, the 11th, the security teams supporting the staff of the Regulatory and Control Agency for Public Transport Services (Artran) also approached the ship “Paulo Santos,” which was crossing the Guamá River heading to the city of Oeiras do Pará, with about 80 passengers. The vessel was seized for not having legal authorization for passenger transport, only for cargo. The passengers were disembarked and the ship's owner was notified.

The coordinator of Security for the Public Safety River Group, Col. PM Bruno, stated that inspection actions will continue until the end of the month. “Our teams will continue to reinforce inspections throughout this period so that everyone can have greater safety in crossing to the islands, as well as for those heading to other municipalities,” said the coordinator.

The activities carried out by the river agents aim to curb crime, as well as nautical accidents, in addition to reinforcing inspections around the resorts and establishments that receive a high flow of people during this time of year, such as the Islands of Combu, Cotijuba, Prainha, as well as ports, marinas, and the waterfront of Belém.
