Segup promotes awareness against sexual harassment in Bragança and Salinas
Vacationers, owners, and employees of commercial establishments are guided on prevention measures and reporting channels

The Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), through the Directorate of Public Security Policies and Social Prevention (DPS), intensifies awareness and prevention actions against the crime of sexual harassment on the beaches and resorts of the municipalities of Salinópolis and Bragança, in the northeastern region of Pará, as part of the Summer Operation 2025.
The police actions have the partnership of the state security system agencies and the State Secretariat for Women (Semu). This second weekend of July, the work involves the dissemination of the protocol "Don't Stay Silent", which aims to combat sexual harassment, prevent harassment, and confront violence against girls and women in Pará, along the sandy beaches, boardwalks, and in commercial establishments.
The head of Segup, Ualame Machado, emphasizes the importance of prevention and awareness. "We have already carried out continuous prevention actions throughout the year with the security system agencies and other state agencies like Semu, but specifically during this time of year, when the beaches and resorts receive a large number of vacationers, we reinforce the actions, initially training the hotel network, owners of commercial establishments, who are the ones who deal directly with the public and can be great partners of public safety if they notice any signs of violence against women."

"During the month of July, we continue with actions in these locations, to raise awareness and encourage women, so that if any type of violence occurs, at the first sign they can have the guarantee of support and make a report,” said the Secretary of Security and Social Defense.
At Atalaia beach, in Salinópolis, the DPS team, integrated with security agents from Segup and teams from Semu, provided information about the crime of sexual harassment and other crimes against women to vacationers, as well as to employees of commercial establishments. The work is also done on the Ajuruteua Beach boardwalk, in Bragança, reinforcing awareness among professionals working in kiosks and also among vacationers enjoying the beach.

Training for merchants and the hotel network
Since the second half of June, owners and employees of bars, restaurants, and hotels in Barcarena and the district of Mosqueiro, in Belém, a total of 250 people, have received training to identify risk situations and collaborate in the prevention and reporting of crimes, especially in places with high traffic. The actions were promoted by the teams of the Directorate of Public Security Policies and Social Prevention (DPS), linked to Segup.
The initiative was part of the "Summer Prevention" project that precedes the Summer Operation 2025, which started on June 28. For Emanuel Souza, a resident and merchant of Ajuruteua, in Bragança, the actions are fundamental.

"In June we received a course informing about crimes, reporting channels, and now we are already seeing the actions taking place. To give you an idea, we have not had a crime here on this beach for two years, so this only reinforces that preventive actions, which for me are fundamental, prevent many types of crime, including against women, as people become more alert. So the merchants who participated in the training already know how to identify when someone is acting differently, we communicate with the police and thus prevent worse things. Thank you very much,” said the businessman in Ajuruteua.
