Uepa Medical Freshmen and Motorcyclists Strengthen Hemopa Foundation Campaign
The special action aimed to reinforce the stocks of the state blood network during the month of July
The Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation of Pará (Hemopa) held a special blood donation campaign this Friday (11), in partnership with the freshmen of the Medicine course at the State University of Pará (Uepa) and the members of the motorcyclist team Guardiões Motocas. The action took place at the Foundation's headquarters in the Batista Campos neighborhood of Belém, aiming to reinforce the stocks of the state blood network during the month of July.
The donor recruitment manager at Hemopa, Juciara Farias, highlighted the importance of partnerships during this period: "Today we are with the caravan of Uepa medical students and the freshmen who will start classes now in the second semester, fulfilling the solidarity initiation. We also have the Guardiões Motocas, who came to contribute to this social responsibility action. These partnerships make a difference in Hemopa's ongoing work for patients who depend on transfusions," she explained.
Coordinator of the freshmen caravan, student Wanessa Araújo explained the motivation of the group. "We gathered volunteers with the aim of uniting, integrating, and helping. We know that during this July period, the number of blood bags decreases. So, we gathered the freshmen from class 2025.2 of Uepa to contribute to Hemopa through donation," she reported.
For freshman Lucas Duarte, the gesture has a special meaning for those starting their medical training. "As future doctors, we will deal with people's lives. Donating blood is a way to show our commitment to society from the beginning of our journey. Without blood, there is no surgery, there is no care. We are here to set an example," he stated.
Representing the Guardiões Motocas team, motorcyclist Breno Medeiros emphasized that the group has been increasingly engaging in social actions. "Our team has been around for three years, and in addition to blood donation, we have already distributed toys at Christmas and basic food baskets to communities. We want to show that we are also citizens and can contribute to society," he declared.
Another team member, donor Benilton Xavier, who works as a rideshare driver, shared his motivation. "We work on the road every day and see many accidents. I have witnessed situations where people close to me needed blood. That's why I'm here, because today it's for others, tomorrow it could be for me. It's important to think of the next person," he affirmed.
Service: The Hemopa Foundation reinforces that donating blood is a fundamental act to save lives and that any healthy person can become a donor. To be a blood donor, it is important to meet some basic criteria:
- Age: between 16 and 69 years. Those under 18 must present authorization from their guardians.
- Weight: minimum of 50 kg.
- Nutrition: it is necessary to be well-fed. Avoid fatty foods in the hours leading up to the donation.
- Rest: have slept at least 6 hours the night before.
In addition to these requirements, during the screening, the health conditions and history of the volunteer are evaluated to ensure the safety of both the donor and the recipient of the blood.
