Metropolitan Hospital Reinforces Traffic Accident Prevention in Pará
With the increase in travel during the school break, the trauma reference unit alerts for essential care and reinforces awareness actions

The increase in vehicle flow on the roads during this school vacation period necessitates heightened attention to avoid traffic accidents. With a focus on prevention, the Metropolitan Emergency and Urgency Hospital (HMUE), located in Ananindeua, alerts for the necessary care so that everyone can enjoy the period without disruptions.
The Hospital is a reference for treating people with medium and high complexity traumas. "July vacations are awaited by everyone planning to travel with family, whether to nearby beaches or resorts. In any option, it is essential to keep in mind that safety should remain among the priorities," says Eric Teixeira, a doctor at the Metropolitan Hospital.

In 2024, the public health unit performed 7,557 services for people involved in traffic accidents, of which 4,684 were in the age group between 15 and 39 years, that is, more than 60% of the total. From January to May of this year, there were 3,048 services, with 1,840 in the same age group.
Driving and Alcohol - Among the factors contributing to serious accidents is the consumption of alcohol combined with driving, and motorcycles have an even greater potential for damage. “Combining alcohol consumption with driving increases the risks of accidents because the effect of alcohol reduces the driver's reaction capacity, can facilitate drowsiness among other factors that pose a risk to all vehicle occupants,” explains Dr. Eric Teixeira.
The doctor adds: “In the case of motorcyclists, an accident can be even worse because, in the event of a fall, the impact is received directly on the body, which is why wearing a helmet is essential.”

Alongside the assistance provided to care for and recover these individuals within the hospital, various awareness actions are carried out focusing on accident prevention. Among the activities are lectures, bedside chats, which aim to guide patient companions on good practices in traffic through informative materials.
