The State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate, and Sustainability (Semas) conducted a technical visit to Natura's Ecopark in Benevides, a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, on Tuesday (8), to consolidate a cooperation agreement aimed at the environmental regularization of supplier communities, support circular economy initiatives, and advance the environmental licensing process of the Amazon Innovation Center developed by the company.

During the visit, Semas' technical teams inspected the facilities of the new Center. The structure includes laboratories and areas dedicated to bioremediation. "The Innovation Center elevates the environmental and technological commitment to research and development in the region. The environmental regularity of the communities that supply bioinputs is essential to ensure the environmental compliance of the sociobiodiversity production chains. The regularization of the areas, with a personalized effort tailored to the community's reality, will ensure environmental and legal security, encouraging sustainable practices, with added value to the products provided by the community agroindustry," emphasized the Deputy Secretary of Environmental Management and Regularity of Semas, Rodolpho Zahluth Bastos.

Climate neutrality - The planned actions in the cooperation emphasize initiatives for land management to reduce climate impacts. “Our support for recycling cooperatives and bioremediation initiatives, such as those developed at the Innovation Center, reduces waste and emissions, aligning with the principles of climate neutrality. Furthermore, the vertical integration of the production chain in Benevides, which is realized with Natura's Innovation Park, drives research in green technologies and sustainable processes, reducing the carbon footprint in the development of bioactives. New startups can also be incubated in the Park, developing low-carbon business models, which can further amplify this impact by promoting local production,” explained Rodolpho Bastos.

The research and development implemented in the region will reduce emissions from extraction and transportation processes that would have been carried out in the Southeast region.

The support actions of the Regulariza Pará Program were discussed directly with the rural communities that are part of the company's production chain, which received Semas' visit during the agenda, such as the Association of Rural Producers from the Campo Limpo Community (Aprocamp) and the CoopCamp Cooperative in Santo Antônio do Tauá, responsible for supplying bioactives used by the company. The environmental regularization activities will also extend to communities in Tomé-Açu.

"Today we received Semas at our Ecopark in Benevides for some main objectives: to visit the site where the Amazon Innovation Center will be built, where we will assist, incubate, and accelerate startups for the development of sustainable technologies, and to learn about the AgroCamp agroindustry, which transfers technology to communities in Campo Limpo,” said Franci Nava, manager of the Center.

In this context, Semas, with the support of Natura, will carry out CAR (Rural Environmental Registry) efforts, focusing on updating and validating the registrations of these communities. Another point addressed was the support for the circular economy in Benevides, through the encouragement of the operation of recycling cooperatives. With the visit, which also featured cultural presentations from the community, Semas' technical team aligned strategies with the company to structure initiatives like these, promoting sustainable practices in the territory.
