State discusses project that transforms plastic waste into solution for asphalt and concrete

Technology presented to Codec ensures material reuse and contributes to emission reduction and strengthening of the circular economy

The Economic Development Company of Pará (Codec) received, on the morning of this Wednesday (9), representatives from the company CRDC Global (Center for Regenerative Design & Collaboration), who presented a patented and sustainable technology aimed at producing asphalt and concrete from plastic waste. The solution uses 80% recycled plastic — especially type 8 — and 20% mineral material, replacing part of the conventional aggregates and ensuring the complete reuse of solid waste in the production process.

With a consolidated presence in four countries, CRDC intends to start its operations in Brazil with Pará as a strategic base. The proposal goes beyond industrial implementation: the representatives informed their intention to structure a national holding company from the State, focusing on the expansion of sustainable technologies to other regions of the country.

Meeting at Codec with representatives from CRDC Global: sustainable investment project

Green economy - The initiative is aligned with the principles of the circular economy, transforming plastic waste — which would normally end up in landfills — into high-performance raw material. Furthermore, the replacement of conventional materials contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, positively impacting the generation of carbon credits in the construction supply chain.

“Our first step in Pará is to present the project, start looking for a suitable area, and build the necessary local partnerships. We are already in contact with recycling cooperatives, as we believe they will be essential for supplying the raw material and for the social impact we want to generate. More than an industrial plant, we want to structure a sustainable model that involves technology, inclusion, and transformation,” said Claudio Villela, CRDC representative in Brazil.

Education - The company maintains an educational foundation that works on environmental awareness projects aimed at children and young people, promoting workshops and educational activities in schools and communities, with an emphasis on sustainability and recycling.

During the meeting, Codec's technical team learned about all stages of the process — from plastic sorting to resin production and its application in urban infrastructure works — as well as successful cases already implemented in other countries.

“Even before the installation of the industrial unit, the focus is on understanding the potential application of the technology in the Pará territory. We have already initiated the necessary institutional dialogue, in addition to identifying strategic areas, so that the project, if realized in Pará, can advance with technical, legal, and environmental security. Codec is available to connect the company with interested municipalities, local cooperatives, and financial institutions, in order to structure a viable and sustainable environment for implementation. This is an initiative that combines innovation, social responsibility, and environmental development with job and income generation,” highlighted the Director of Investment Attraction at Codec, Manoel Ibiapina.

The company's interest demonstrates Pará's potential as a strategic destination for investments that contribute to the sustainable transition of the economy. Through Codec, the State offers institutional security, technical support, and articulation to transform innovation into real development opportunities.
