The initiative "Health in Your Hands," in effect since April 2025, at the Regional Hospital of Tapajós (HRT), in Itaituba, southwestern Pará, has been ensuring greater access to specialized health services for the local population. In the first half of this year alone, 22,970 outpatient services were provided, an increase of 19.9% compared to the same period in 2024, when 19,152 services were recorded.

The action allows residents of Itaituba and neighboring municipalities to attend the unit in person to schedule consultations in various medical specialties, as well as laboratory tests. In-person scheduling is conducted during pre-defined monthly periods that are widely advertised by the unit, usually in the first weeks of each month. This strategy ensures organization and better service flow for the population.

Itaituba resident, Josimar Alencar, started gynecological treatment: "I have always been well attended," she says.

Itaituba resident Josimar Santos de Alencar, 47, started treatment in the gynecology specialty, underwent a high-complexity surgical procedure, and is now continuing with routine follow-up.

"I have always been well attended and everything was quick. I was happy to have my treatment done here effectively and with quality. Today I came just for my routine consultation and everything went well," she reported.

The supervising nurse of the hospital's outpatient sector, Diogo Brasil, highlighted the positive impact of the action. "This strategy brings the service closer to the community, reducing access barriers and strengthening the bond between the hospital and the Tapajós population. The increase in demand shows that we are on the right track," he emphasized.

The hospital's general director, Salomão Favacho, reinforced the importance of the project. "This nearly 20% increase in outpatient services is a reflection of a committed effort to welcoming and expanding access to health. 'Health in Your Hands' is a victory for the population."

The Regional Hospital of Tapajós, managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), is a unit belonging to the Government of Pará, with 153 beds, including Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal ICUs. The hospital reinforces its commitment to public health by providing quality services to the local population.
