The State University of Pará (UEPA) held, this Saturday (05), the second preparatory class of the Alternative Course, a free initiative aimed at public school students preparing for the National High School Exam (ENEM). The event had the participation of more than 120 students in the institution's auditorium and highlighted the dynamic approach to content and integration with current topics.

During the class, the teachers relied on more participatory methods to keep the students' attention. Physics teacher Marlon Santos highlighted the difference between traditional classes and those held in an auditorium:

“We prepared the content in a fun and interactive way, with dynamics and conversations. The challenge is to keep the focus of the more than 150 students present, so we seek to make the class light and understandable,” he stated.

Review of subjects - In addition to reinforcing content such as MRU, MRUV, and Newton's Laws, Marlon points out a common challenge among the participants.

“Many students carry the fear of mathematics and, consequently, of physics. Our job is to show that these subjects can be simplified and are part of everyday life.”

In the field of Biology, teacher Leonardo Andrade emphasized the importance of relating the content to the students' reality, especially on current topics such as COP 30.

“We work with the students' experiences. The theme of the class was ‘The challenges of the Amazon in light of COP 30’, which allowed for an interdisciplinary approach to Ecology, biodiversity, and public health, all frequent topics in the ENEM.”

Impact on preparation - For the students, the event served both as a review and as motivation, in addition to confirming the positive results of the methodology adopted in the activity.

“The class is essential! It reinforces what we have already seen and also clears up doubts that were left behind. It helped me a lot to remember topics that had gone unnoticed,” commented Lidiane Corrêa.

“It was fun, well explained, and provided extra reinforcement during this vacation period. I found the class enjoyable and didactic. The teachers explain very well, and this facilitates understanding of the content,” evaluated José Lorran, a former student of Anísio Teixeira.

The project coordinator, Nágila Aood, emphasizes that, in addition to the content, the class offers a more engaging experience. “We combine relevant topics with practical activities to make learning more active. The result of this is reflected in the approvals: only this year, we had more than 60 students approved in universities,” she points out.

UEPA's Alternative Course - Created in 2007 by professor Altem Nascimento Pontes, the Alternative Course was born with the purpose of training undergraduate students from UEPA for the classroom. Over time, the project expanded its scope, offering spots for students from public schools. Today, the course brings together more than 100 collaborators from different areas.

“The goal has always been to democratize access to quality education. We have pedagogues, undergraduate students, and executive secretariat students, all united to promote meaningful preparation,” explains Nágila Aood.
