Ideflor-Bio strengthens environmental protection in the Summer Operation 2025 in Salinópolis
The Institute maintains the blockade of vehicles in a stretch of about 3 kilometers of the sandy beach of Praia do Atalaia, at the height of the 3rd shortcut
The Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) was present at the official opening of the Summer Operation 2025, held on Saturday (28) at Praia do Atalaia, in Salinópolis, in northeastern Pará. The event brought together representatives from various state agencies with the aim of aligning strategies for security, urban planning, public health, and environmental conservation during the period of high tourist flow.
Representing the Institute, the Director of Management and Monitoring of Conservation Units, Ellivelton Carvalho, participated in the public security summit meeting alongside representatives from the Military Police, Civil Police, Fire Department, State Traffic Department (Detran), among others.
The actions of Ideflor-Bio will be particularly focused on environmental education, inspection, and guidance in the territory of Ponta da Sofia, a sensitive area that houses nesting sites for sea turtles.
During the meeting, the Institute reiterated the information about maintaining the blockade of motor vehicles in a stretch of approximately three kilometers of the sandy beach of Praia do Atalaia, at the height of the 3rd shortcut, as recommended by the Public Ministry of the State of Pará. This measure aims to protect the integrity of the sea turtles' nesting process, which intensifies during this time of year. However, pedestrian and bather circulation in the area remains permitted.
“The work of preserving turtles at Ponta da Sofia is a priority for the State Government, and Ideflor-Bio has been working in an integrated manner with other agencies to ensure that this unique ecosystem is respected. We are here to educate, guide, inspect, and above all, promote a balanced coexistence between tourism and nature,” said Director Ellivelton Carvalho, highlighting the strategic role of the Conservation Unit (UC) Natural Monument of Atalaia, which covers part of the resort.
Actions - The Institute's activities during the summer season will focus on the Gigi Saúde Ecobiblioteca, an educational space located at Ponta da Sofia, with a program that includes lectures, workshops, trails, games, clean-up campaigns, and cultural events. The lectures, held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, will cover topics such as environmental public safety, ecotourism, public health, avian influenza, traffic education, climate change, and the role of UCs, among others.
Playful workshops such as making cardboard turtles and puppet theater are part of the programming aimed at children. Beach clean-up campaigns are also scheduled for Saturdays at 5 PM, and interpretive trails on Fridays from 4 PM to 6 PM. There will also be educational activities such as environmental games, film sessions, ecological challenges with prizes, and cultural circles of carimbó at the Ecobiblioteca.
Participation - Among the highlights are the environmental challenges, with prizes on Saturdays, which encourage sustainable practices such as recycling, using bicycles instead of cars, and abandoning disposable utensils. The symbolic release of baby sea turtles, one of the most anticipated activities of the summer, may occur depending on the confirmation of the expected birth calendar for July.
“Ideflor-Bio works to ensure that the summer season is also a season of environmental awareness. Therefore, all our actions seek to involve residents, tourists, and public agents in a joint effort for the preservation of Pará's coastal biodiversity,” emphasized the Institute's president, Nilson Pinto. According to him, the integrated action of the agency with security forces and state departments is essential for the success of the Summer Operation.
The expectation is for a large public to circulate in Salinópolis throughout the month of July, especially at Praia do Atalaia, one of Pará's main resorts. In this scenario, the preventive and educational work developed by Ideflor-Bio complements the efforts of the State Government to ensure a safe, sustainable, and responsible summer, contributing to the appreciation of natural resources and the protection of species that make the Pará coastline an ecological heritage.
