The student Rebeca Marinho, 17 years old, who is in the 3rd year at the State Education Institute of Pará (IEEP) in Belém, was the winner of the state stage of the essay contest of the Young Senator Program, promoted by the Federal Senate. With this result, the young woman will represent Pará during the legislative experience provided by the program, which will take place from August 18 to 22 in Brasília (DF).

The Young Senator Essay Contest aims to encourage students to reflect on politics, democracy, and citizenship, as well as to provide knowledge about the structure and functioning of the Brazilian Legislative Power. This year, the contest brought the theme "Climate emergency: think about the future, act in the present."

Rebeca celebrates the achievement: "Participating in this process was a mix of emotion, pride, and responsibility. Representing my people and bringing the strength and culture of the North to a national decision-making space was an immense honor."

"I was happy to win first place, but I didn't stop thinking about everyone who was with me on this journey. On the day of the school selection, I was sick and even doubted my ability to produce a good essay, and knowing that my text was chosen, even in the face of this challenge, made everything even more special. It was a true support network: teachers, administration, friends, and especially my mother, who, with her faith, advice, and constant presence, gave me strength in the most difficult moments. Her emotional support made all the difference in this journey," said the student.

The coordinator of High School at Seduc, Higor Okada, took the opportunity to congratulate and thank everyone involved for their efforts.

"We thank the participation and involvement of the entire school. These actions are part of the High School curriculum, integrated into the pedagogical proposals, and are not extra activities. We recognize the work of teachers in guiding students and the dedication of the students. We also highlight the importance of integration between areas of knowledge, especially the Humanities, which broadens the repertoire and contributes to relevant discussions. These experiences directly reflect what will be required in the Enem, Saeb, and other external assessments," said the coordinator.

Young Senator Program - Created by the Federal Senate in 2005, the program invites students from public and private schools in each state to develop projects of social interest and, subsequently, compete for a position as a state representative in the Senate. During the final stage, young people also have the chance to simulate legislative activities, such as debates, committees, and voting on proposals.

The Young Senator aims to encourage high school students to learn about the structure and functioning of the Federal Legislative in Brazil, as well as to stimulate a permanent relationship among young citizens.
