New opportunity: now teenagers from 16 years old can also volunteer at COP30
Registrations open on July 1st and run until July 11th; students will receive training and will need authorization from their guardians

After the success of the first registration phase of the COP30 Volunteer Program, held in early June, young people living in Belém (PA) and the metropolitan region now have a new opportunity to participate – this time aimed at teenagers aged 16 and 17. The announcement was published in the Official State Gazette (DOE) on Thursday (26), by the State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Higher, Professional and Technological Education (SECTET). Registrations start tomorrow (1st) and will be open until July 11th, exclusively online, at www.sectet.pa.gov.br or on the official Program portal: www.voluntarioscop30.pa.gov.br.
"We are very happy to open this new phase of the COP30 Volunteer Program, now with the possibility of participation for young people from 16 years old. We want to further increase the engagement of our population, offering a unique opportunity for students to experience a world-class event up close. This is a way to stimulate citizenship, youth leadership, and awareness of climate change. We believe that the experience will positively mark the lives of each participant," says Victor Dias, secretary of SECTET.
The new announcement expands participation possibilities and seeks to involve the youth of the Metropolitan Region of Belém in the activities of one of the largest climate events in the world. For minors, registration will depend on formal authorization from parents or legal guardians, through the joint signature of the specific Adhesion Term.
In addition to including the youth audience, the process also offers a new chance for residents of Belém who, for some reason, were unable to register in the first selection. As in the other phases of the program, the announcement reserves 5% of the spots for people with disabilities (PCDs) and 20% for indigenous peoples and quilombola communities.
All registered participants will take a training course with a workload of 120 hours, distributed over six modules. The training content will cover topics such as climate change, tourism, intercultural communication, and dynamics of working at large events. The certification obtained will be essential for enabling volunteers to perform their duties during the Conference.
The desired profile for volunteers includes good communication, proactivity, organization, problem-solving ability, and availability to work during the specific hours of COP30, which will take place from November 10th to 21st in Belém.
