Seduc participates in the I Forum of the Pact for Overcoming Illiteracy and Qualification of EJA

With the commitment to guarantee the right to literacy and strengthen Youth and Adult Education (EJA) in the state, the State Department of Education (Seduc) and municipalities in Pará participated, this Wednesday (25), in the I Sharing Forum of the National Pact for Overcoming Illiteracy and Qualification of EJA, at the headquarters of the Union of Surveillance Companies, Training Courses, and Private Security of the State of Pará (Sindesp), in the Marco neighborhood, in Belém.
The event, held through the Coordination of Youth and Adult Education (CEJA) of Seduc, brought together representatives from the National Union of Municipal Education Directors of Pará (Undime), National Council of Secretaries of Education (Consed), EJA Forum, regional coordinators, and technicians from the Ministry of Education (MEC), as well as trainers and literacy educators.
The goal of the forum is to expand dialogue among the entities involved in the execution of the Pact for Overcoming Illiteracy and Qualification of EJA in Pará, to share information about federal programs that make up the national EJA policy, and to collaboratively build an action plan with priority goals. Since July 2024, the State has been part of the Federal Government initiative that seeks to eradicate illiteracy among young people, adults, and elderly Brazilians.
"I was very happy to know that the State of Pará will be the precursor of such a beautiful initiative to educate so many people, especially a sensitive audience that is our young and adult individuals who are still illiterate - a great need of Pará society. I congratulate everyone who is here at this event, and all who dedicate a little of their time, energy, and heart to such a noble function that is to educate this special audience. Congratulations to everyone here at this event, may we build a beautiful project from here on out," said the interim Secretary of State for Education (Seduc), Ricardo Sefer.
The coordinator of Youth and Adult Education at Seduc, Ana Cláudia Neves, explained the impact of the initiative. "The Pact for Overcoming Illiteracy and Qualification of EJA is a Federal Government program that brings a set of twelve federal programs to be implemented in the State of Pará, the representation of Seduc/Consed, through the Coordination of Youth and Adult Education made a great mobilization in the municipalities where we achieved the adherence of all 144 municipalities. Programs such as Pé de Meia/EJA, PDDE EQUIDADE, PNLD EJA (Textbook), ProJovem Urban and Rural, Training Platform, and the flagship of the Pact: the Brazil Literate Program (PBA), which is considered the largest literacy program for young people and adults in Latin America, arrived in July 2024," highlighted the educator who also coordinates the Pact/Seduc/Consed/Mec.

As results of the pact in Pará in this first year of implementation of the Brazil Literate Program (PBA), the State already presents significant advances such as, for example, the adherence of all 144 municipalities in Pará to the Pact; all municipalities in the state have classes for Youth and Adult Education (EJA) and, of these, 139 will implement specific literacy classes for young people, adults, and the elderly; adherence to the Pé-de-Meia/EJA program, which serves about 20,000 students; adherence to the National Textbook Program (PNLD/EJA); and to the Direct Money in School Program (PDDE/EJA/EQUIDADE), which is ongoing.
In total, 22 coordinators, 44 regional trainers, 9 support technicians from MEC, and popular literacy educators, along with 20 from Seduc and Undime participated in the I Forum of the Pact for Overcoming Illiteracy and Qualification of EJA.
"By signing this Pact, the State Government, through the State Department of Education, committed to also overcoming illiteracy among young people and adults, we are fully convinced that guaranteeing the right to read and write will contribute to the social development of the population in Pará. No one will be left behind, the caravan of literacy for young people and adults will reach the municipalities, we advise people to seek a popular literacy educator, in the DRE of their Integration Region or in the local Municipal Education Department and learn to read and write," concluded coordinator Ana Cláudia Neves.
