The action of the government of Pará promotes the right to housing with greater legal security for families and sustainable development for municipalities

The Government of Pará, through the Housing Company of Pará (Cohab), has ensured that over 5,000 families achieved urban land regularization (Reurb) in the last six years in the State. Currently, Cohab is working on land regularization in the municipalities of Belém, Ananindeua, Marituba, Castanhal, Acará, Tucuruí, Redenção, Marabá, and Santarém.

The president of Cohab, Manoel Pioneiro, emphasizes that land regularization is a process that seeks to guarantee the right to housing, promote the social function of urban property, and sustainable development of the municipality. “Cohab develops Reurb S, which is urbanization of social interest, aimed at areas predominantly occupied by low-income populations, mostly families who have lived in these places for years but do not have the financial means to title the area,” he details.

Reurb S has ensured the social inclusion of about two thousand families in Redenção, for example. They were benefited with property titles issued by Cohab. The documents were delivered registered in notaries, and at no cost to the beneficiaries.

Reality - Public servant Kellen Araújo was benefited and reports that today she can say she has her own house, “because it is all documented, which brings me security. And I can say that today this house is mine.”

The Regularization Project targets families in situations of social vulnerability with a gross family income of up to 5 minimum wages, and who do not own another property. The action occurs through the execution of a set of legal, urban, environmental, and social measures. The goal is to regularize urban nuclei that have been occupied disorderly and thus ensure the titling of their occupants, as a way to integrate these families into the territorial planning of Pará.

Retiree Isabele dos Santos, also a resident of Redenção, shares that she always dreamed of having the documents for her house, “but I did not have the financial means. Today, thank God and the government, I have the documents in hand.”

During the titling process, the Government of Pará also carries out necessary works, which stimulates urban development and reduces land conflicts in Pará.
