Fapespa promotes the campaign 'Science Saves Lives, Donate Blood', in partnership with Hemopa
The foundation joins the Red June campaign and encourages the solidarity act of blood donation among those who work with science and technology

To encourage blood donation among public servants, scholarship holders, researchers, and academics, the Amazon Foundation for Support of Studies and Research (Fapespa) promotes the campaign 'Science Saves Lives', in partnership with the Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation of Pará (Hemopa). The initiative aims to raise awareness among the population, especially those in the fields of science, research, and technology, about the importance of the act of donating blood.
“We work here to promote science, technology, and innovation, and of course, we believe in the power of science to save lives, and donating blood is an act of saving lives. So Fapespa needed to be part of the Red June campaign, encouraging all those who work with science and technology that we support. I am sure that with today's campaign, we will encourage and motivate many students, many teachers, and researchers to participate in this campaign, not just now in June, but all year round,” celebrates Fapespa's president, Marcel Botelho.

Donations - the partnership started last year and this month, in reference to the Red June campaign, a new action was held, this time at Fapespa's headquarters, on Tuesday (17). With the campaign, Fapespa seeks to establish a commitment to the health of the population.

Member of the Hemopa team, nursing technician Adilson de Castro encourages donation by explaining that the donation takes an average of six minutes, and that a donated bag of blood can save up to four lives.
“To be eligible to donate, you need to be in good health, have had a good night's sleep, be well hydrated, and have eaten well. There is no need to fast during the donation. The donation itself is smooth, and you will be contributing and saving lives,” highlights Adilson de Castro.
Created to raise awareness about donation, the 'Red June' campaign seeks to increase the number of regular donors, especially during critical periods such as winter and extended holidays, when stocks naturally decline.

The action is essential to meet the needs of patients requiring transfusions. “What brought me to donate blood was the opportunity to help others, a way for us to do good without looking at whom. And I think it is important that this is done in a public agency, and at Fapespa as well, because it encourages public servants to donate and to encourage their family members and friends to bring this benefit to the population,” states public servant Frederico Mendonça.
The campaign gains strength with the support of institutions and actions in blood centers, which honor and welcome donors. At Fapespa, the action mobilized employees and scholarship holders. Young Landara Mendes, a scholarship holder from the Directorate of Research and Environmental Studies (Dipea), donated blood.
“This campaign is necessary because it helps those who do not have time to go to a blood center, making it easier for not only the employees here at the Foundation but also for those passing by to make their donation as well. This is a gesture of giving for others, just like we did in our awareness campaign. And it is important that we know we are helping someone and that this blood is important, that we can save a life,” reflected scholarship holder Landara Mendes.
To donate blood, you must be between 16 and 69 years old (minors must bring authorization from a guardian), weigh more than 50 kg, and be in good health. Just go to one of Hemopa's units and present an official photo ID.
