Pioneering digital tool will allow real-time updates on the implementation of strategic actions in the area

The Pará Forum on Climate Change and Adaptation (FPMAC), held by the Secretary of Environment, Climate and Sustainability of Pará (Semas), concluded on Wednesday (11) with the presentation of the monitoring platform for the State Bioeconomy Plan (PlanBio). The digital tool allows different secretaries to input information about their actions monthly, enabling the tracking of their execution and providing data on the volume of resources, number of people served, and many other benefits.

“The Bioeconomy Plan includes 122 actions from 18 secretaries, so it is important to monitor them. Therefore, in 2024, Semas, with the support of a specialized information technology consultancy, began developing the project for the platform, which is an important element to mark future public policy actions, based on how we can improve impact and generate more reach, and also to monitor if it is being executed as originally planned,” emphasizes Camille Bemerguy, Deputy Secretary of Bioeconomy at Semas.

PlanBio, which is part of the State Amazon Now Plan (PEAA), is one of the main strategies of the state government in the transition to a low-carbon economy. Within this strategy, one of the main highlights is the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park, an initiative aimed at transforming the region into a hub for sustainable, scientific, and technological development.

Camille Bemerguy emphasizes that “the Bioeconomy Park is a catalyst, a representative space where traditional, technological, and industrial bioeconomy can coexist through the union of an innovation center and a socio-bioeconomy center, spaces that will boost businesses related to bioeconomy, seek and value our resources, and design future public policies for diverse groups.”

The Bioeconomy Park will also offer a shared lab-factory for start-ups and community businesses, research and knowledge spaces that will promote innovation and create an innovative environment capable of scaling up bioeconomy.

During the two-day event, a space was also made available for local producers to market products from Pará's bioeconomy, including food, handicrafts, and beauty products that enhance the symbolic value and genetic heritage of the state.

“For a state that aims to be carbon neutral, we need a new development model, and bioeconomy is one of the strategies and pathways to be an important vector for a low-carbon socioeconomic transition, connecting economic value with symbolic and ecological value, valuing the genetic heritage of the Amazon. Bioeconomy is a development model with immense potential, and for the Amazon, it is a revolution. Today, more than ever, we need solutions that are, at the same time, just, regenerative, and rooted in the territory,” explains Camille.

Bioeconomy and COP 30 - Last Tuesday (10), Semas participated in the Multisectoral Dialogue with the High-Level Climate Champions: Insights for COP30 (30th United Nations Climate Change Conference), to discuss issues related to the global event that effectively need to be part of the discussion. The event was a moment to listen to different sectors, addressing elements and issues that need to be brought to the discussion at COP30.

“Semas spoke about the bioeconomy area, showcasing the state's movement in building a bioeconomy plan and its reach and transformative power. COP30 will be, above all, an action and implementation agenda, and in this sense, the state of Pará has much to contribute in terms of what it has been doing and to bring this as a contribution to the discussions at the Conference,” concludes Camille.
