The Yellow May Campaign ended on Saturday, the 31st, and is already considered the largest in the last five years. With over 150 actions and approximately 8,000 people reached, the movement carried out by the State Traffic Department (Detran) aimed at traffic education in schools, companies, public and private institutions, and public roads. In all of them, collective awareness actions were promoted to build a more humane and safe traffic environment.

Focused on respecting traffic laws, especially speed limits, as well as human mobility, this year's Yellow May Campaign was an invitation for people to make individual behavior an instrument of collective life preservation in traffic. The movement is international and takes place every May to mark the mobilization of society to reduce accidents.

In Pará, Detran's actions were centralized in Belém and the metropolitan region. On the main avenues of the capital, education teams conducted educational approaches to alert drivers and pedestrians about the main risk factors, including not wearing helmets and seat belts, driving under the influence of alcohol, and using cell phones while driving. Driving without a National Driver's License, making improper overtakes, and not respecting speed limits are also among the main causes of accidents in Pará.

In schools, education agents used pedagogical resources to show young people and adolescents the risks of accidents and the importance of awareness. In universities, lectures and workshops demonstrated that traffic should be a space of respect and citizenship.

Children from public and private schools were welcomed at Detranzinho. With playful and visual resources, the space funnily reinforced the need to teach about road education from childhood.

Companies in Belém and the metropolitan region were also visited by Detran teams throughout May. With many employees licensed and others intending to become future drivers, companies have established themselves as one of the main partners of the agency, promoting lectures and discussion circles. This year, companies held 26 lectures in May.

"In all actions, our servers engaged with all these sectors of society, making a great effort to convey the Yellow May message about the preservation of life. The actions continue throughout the year, and we ask people to observe the message of slowing down, after all, in traffic, the greatest asset is life," says the general director of Detran, Renata Coelho.
