Children treated at the Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, participated this Thursday (22) in an educational action related to the Yellow May campaign, aimed at promoting traffic safety. The activity aimed to raise awareness among young patients about the importance of adopting safe behaviors, whether as pedestrians, cyclists, or passengers.

The initiative, promoted by the hospital teams, combined games, interactive activities, and a mini "traffic class" to teach in a playful and accessible way topics such as the correct use of seat belts, child safety seats, the importance of always crossing at crosswalks, and respecting traffic signals.

Among the participants was Clara Beatriz, 6 years old, a resident of the Carajás region. Hospitalized for six days in the pediatric clinic for diabetes treatment, Clara showed enthusiasm while learning about traffic rules. "I learned that we have to look both ways before crossing and that we can't run in the street," she said, smiling. Excited, the girl is already planning to share her knowledge. "When I leave the hospital, I will tell my friends everything I learned here."

Another child involved in the action was Yasmin Silva, undergoing treatment for pneumonia. At the end of the activity, she also highlighted the learning acquired. "I learned that we have to obey traffic signs always," she stated.

Daiane Uzinsky, the hospital's humanization analyst, explained that the proposal is to transform the hospital environment into a space for learning and reflection. "We aim to bring education and awareness in a light and accessible way. When we teach a child about traffic safety, we are planting a seed that will grow and impact an entire community," she said.

As a form of recognition, the children received symbolic certificates of "Traffic Friend," reinforcing the children's role in the awareness process. "In addition to learning while playing, they felt valued and as protagonists of this knowledge, which they will certainly take to their families and into their lives," Daiane added.

Reference in care for traffic victims

The Regional Hospital of Marabá is one of the main references in the care of victims of emergencies and trauma in the Carajás region. The unit, managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA) in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), serves patients from 22 municipalities, with modern structure and highly qualified team.

According to the executive director of the institution, Flavio Marconsini, the hospital has an emergency center equipped with red rooms for immediate care of critical cases. “We are prepared to perform complex interventions in the first hours after trauma, which is crucial for saving lives. We also have a complete surgical center that handles high-complexity cases,” he explained.

Marconsini also emphasized the presence of Intensive Care Units (ICUs) with advanced technology and specialized teams to ensure continuous support for critically ill patients. “Our mission is to ensure that each user receives agile, safe, and excellent care, especially in moments when every second can make a difference in preserving life,” he concluded.

Structure - The Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará "Dr. Geraldo Veloso" is a reference for the region, offering 100% of services through the Unified Health System (SUS). The hospital has 135 beds, with 97 allocated for clinical hospitalization and 38 dedicated to Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (ICU).
