This Sunday, the 18th, Praça Benedito Monteiro, in Guamá, the most populous neighborhood of Belém, hosted a large citizenship and awareness action in honor of "May 18", National Day for Combating the Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents. The program is part of the actions carried out in "Orange May", an initiative of the State Committee for Combating the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents (CEEVSCA), which brought together playful and recreational activities, cultural presentations, workshops, as well as document issuance, legal guidance, specialized listening, and reporting of forwarded occurrences.

“Today the actions are reinforced to mark, once again, May 18, which is a national date in the fight against sexual crimes against children and adolescents. However, we continue to strengthen the work so that in all months our actions are even more effective in raising awareness and preventing crimes, and in light of the cases that unfortunately occur, we can continue to act with repression, punishing those responsible and showing that protection is a duty of all of us,” emphasized Ualame Machado, head of Segup.

A percussion group of girls was also present during the cultural program of May 18, in the Guamá neighborhood

The activities began at 8 am throughout the square, with recreation, artistic paintings, puppet theater, playful activities for children and adolescents, as well as awareness for families and cultural presentations with children.

Documents - At the Integrated Command and Control Center (CICCM) of Segup, also set up in the square, there was document issuance - ID and Birth Certificate -, legal guidance, and specialized listening through the Civil Police and the ParáPaz Foundation.

Pedagogy student and resident of the neighborhood, Ana Patrícia, took the opportunity to bring her two children, aged 5 and 10, to enjoy the program, and one of them already issued their ID. “When I found out that the event was going to happen, I organized his documents, planned to wake them up early and come here. Today it’s not just the document that he will get that is important for us, but the activities they participated in, the information they are giving us already helps a lot so that we can pay more attention to our children, and especially the playful way they are being informed, undoubtedly helps them to speak up if something happens. We thank all the sectors that came to the neighborhood today to bring services and information to us parents and our children,” she said.

The Integrated Command and Control Center opened space for people interested in obtaining documents, including ID

Segup also ensured, through the servers of the Directorate of Public Security Policies and Social Prevention (DPS), guidance to adults, adolescents, and children on the subject, promoting reporting channels such as 181 and WhatsApp of Iara, both from the Disque-Denúncia, thus allowing the population to understand how the channels work and, if necessary, not to hesitate to activate the security system.

Information - For Delegate Ariane Melo, head of the Directorate of Public Policies and Social Prevention of Segup, all the work carried out and strengthened by the protection network is essential for people to have access to information and assist in combating crime.

“Since the beginning of May, we have been conducting visits and awareness lectures in schools, public agencies, as well as inspections in bars, nightclubs, and establishments, in order to prevent and curb these crimes. We have been in municipalities in the Carajás region, we are conducting actions in the Capital, such as the one held today, exactly on May 18, reinforcing the fight against any and all crimes against children and adolescents. And we will continue to other regions of Pará, such as Marajó, to train and further strengthen the protection network. We continue to prepare the agents who are on the front lines every day, but bringing, as today, information about the reporting channels, which are fundamental so that if a crime occurs, the information reaches the security system so that all measures can be taken,” said Delegate Ariane Melo.

Orange May - Segup, in conjunction with the Civil and Military Police and municipal agencies, continues to act in the “Safe Paths” Operation, nationally coordinated by the National Secretariat of Public Security (Senasp), which focuses on combating violence against children and adolescents throughout the Pará territory.

Municipalities such as Parauapebas and Canaã dos Carajás received specific prevention actions. In Belém, the operation also continues with inspections along BR 316 in bars, nightclubs, and commercial establishments, in order to raise awareness among those responsible for the locations, inform reporting channels, and also check for the presence of children and adolescents in these places.

The Safe Paths Operation began on April 30 and will continue until May 30, with actions in the Metropolitan Region of Belém and in the municipalities of Portel and Breves, in the Marajó archipelago.
