IFPA Students Visit Cosanpa Facilities in Santarém
The visit is part of the semester program and aims to bring students closer to the reality of sanitation in the state

Carlos André is 16 years old and, for the first time, the student of the technical course in Sanitation at IFPA (Federal Institute of Pará) participated in the visit to the Sanitation Company of Pará (COSANPA) in Santarém.
"I found it very interesting. The Cosanpa team explained each step of the supply process in detail. I understood that the water is pumped, goes through the correct treatments, and then is tested to be qualified and only then sent to other neighborhoods," said Carlos, attentive to the processes he witnessed at the Irurá Complex, one of Cosanpa's main units in Santarém.
The activity was accompanied by Professor Helen Andrade, a sanitary engineer and responsible for the Environmental Sanitation course at IFPA. For her, more than a practical class, the experience allows students to see the social impact of the work they intend to perform in the future.
"In the classroom, they learn the theory, but here they experience the system in operation. They get to know the reality, compare it with what they study, and become multiplying agents. It is essential for them to understand the value of having access to treated and quality water," emphasized the professor.
The visit is part of the semester program and seeks to bring students closer to the reality of sanitation in the state.
At the end of the activity, COSANPA's sanitary engineer, Júlia Carvalho, who conducted the visit, reinforced the importance of initiatives like this. "It is very rewarding to receive students and show them up close what we do here. The entire process for good supply, from capturing through deep wells, as well as sample analysis in the laboratory to distribution to homes. I hope they leave here with a new perspective on the role they will play in society," pointed out Júlia Carvalho.
