In honor of Mathematics Day, celebrated on the 6th, Tuesday, the Science Center and Planetarium of Pará (CCPPA) will hold the event "Mathematical Mindsets" next Saturday, the 10th, from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with free admission. The program will consist of a dome session, games, exhibitions, and origami and chess workshops. Each workshop has 20 spots available. To participate, it is necessary to register through the online forms available at these links: origami and chess. Each person may register for only one workshop.

The field of Mathematics is one of the areas integrated into the CCPPA. Here, visitors can learn about this science and its applications in everyday life. Concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are presented, as well as objects that stimulate geometric thinking and logical reasoning. According to Eliza Souza, responsible for the Mathematics space, this Saturday's event will provide participants with a moment of discovery, challenges, and enchantment with the world of numbers.

Concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are presented, as well as objects that stimulate geometric thinking and logical reasoning.

"It will be an incredible opportunity for students, teachers, curious individuals, and math enthusiasts to celebrate together the beauty and importance of this science. Mathematics explains the universe, from the cycles of the seasons to the movements of the planets. Mathematical formulas help us understand the cosmos, so it is only fair to celebrate this science in our Planetarium. We invite everyone to come explore how Mathematics is present in our daily lives, from art to Astronomy, from games to puzzles," highlights Eliza, who is a faculty member at the State University of Pará (Uepa).

Program - Among the highlights of the event are the origami and chess workshops. Inocêncio Costa, a Mathematics graduate from Uepa and a former intern at CCPPA, will lead the origami activity. He explains that this ancient Eastern practice stimulates concentration for making folds and aids in understanding the geometric shapes that make up the formed figures. Inocêncio had previously conducted the workshop during the "Planetarium on Vacation" program, which took place in July 2024, and he states that the audience approved the initiative.

Games are among the activities that will be part of the "Mathematical Mindsets" event.

"I noticed that the workshop was very well received, especially by children. Many people asked us to hold the activity again. They engaged and developed various products, such as jumping frog folds, cats, and tsuru, an emblematic bird of Japanese culture," he reports.

Edilson Azevedo holds a degree in Mathematics from Uepa and has also been an intern at CCPPA. He will conduct the chess workshop and lists the benefits of the game. "Chess develops logical reasoning and spatial thinking, in addition to stimulating a strategic mindset, as it allows anticipating moves and planning plays," he states. According to Edilson, during the activity, the rules of chess, piece movements, styles, and patterns of play will be addressed.
