Government of Pará guarantees housing assistance for families affected by strong winds in Belém
In Mosqueiro, forty families had their homes destroyed by the strong winds that hit the island. Cohab is expediting the necessary procedures to ensure the 'Sua Casa' program.

Teams from the Government of Pará, through the Housing Company of Pará (Cohab), began, on this Monday (5), the registration of families affected by heavy rain last Sunday (4). The strong winds damaged about 40 houses in the Maracajá neighborhood, on Mosqueiro Island, a district of Belém.

“By order of Governor Helder Barbalho, we are expediting the registration of families affected by this natural disaster so that, in the shortest time possible, we can provide the housing benefit Sua Casa for them to rebuild their homes,” said the president of Cohab, Manoel Pioneiro, who was on the island assisting families.

The housing benefit Sua Casa consists of the donation of financial resources, through a check, accepted in construction material stores. The assistance allows for the purchase of materials for building houses. There is also a check to assist with the labor costs of the mason. The housing benefit can reach up to R$ 21,000.

For families who had their roofs blown off during the strong winds, the help comes to assist in rebuilding their lives. Housewife Kelly Souza reports, for example, that she suffered total loss in her residence.
“The strong winds broke everything. It took the entire roof, broke the walls, and threw the walls on top of the bed, which also broke. This help from the Government will ensure that we have our home again; I am very grateful to Governor Helder,” said the housewife.

Domestic worker Regina Lúcia Santos Nunes said that the natural phenomenon was frightening. “My house, with the wind yesterday, lost half of the roof, and today I am here registering to have the right to this benefit from Cohab, which will be our salvation to rebuild everything we lost,” said Regina Santos.

The strong winds left the neighborhood without electricity and knocked down several trees. The Director of Special Housing of Cohab (Dipem), Carlos Amílcar, details that the day will be dedicated to registering all families affected by the strong winds.

“We have been acting swiftly to expedite the procedures and ensure the Sua Casa benefit, thus fulfilling Cohab's social function of helping those who need it most,” said Carlos Amílcar.
