Santa Casa holds program for International Day of Safety and Health at Work
The event had the theme: “Voices of Safety and Health at Work. Say No to Harassment”
Focused on the Green April campaign, the Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará Foundation (FSCMPA) held a program on Tuesday (29) at the hospital aimed at sharing information about safety and health at work with the institution's employees.
The event, coordinated by the Internal Commission for Accident Prevention and Harassment (Cipa), opened with the presence of the ‘Coral Saúde e Vida Maria Helena Franco’. During the event, the keynote lecture was held: “Voices of Safety and Health at Work. Say No to Harassment,” delivered by Nicholas Mota, a doctor from the Worker Health Reference Center (Cerest-PA), who works in the areas of worker health and traffic medicine.
Regarding moral harassment, Nicholas states that it is a transversal and important topic. “The tip to reduce this situation is, first, awareness. Making employees aware of when practices are abusive, so they can also do their part. Second, reducing this top-down, bottom-up authoritarian relationship. Creating environments with a more favorable organizational climate, more empathetic, and working on health and safety within the workplace as well,” emphasizes Dr. Nicholas.
Denise Rosário, president of Cipa, highlighted the importance of everyone's participation due to Green April, a month dedicated to raising awareness about workplace safety and health. “Today, I can say that the level of awareness among Santa Casa employees is very important. Since 2023, we have been talking about harassment and taking preventive actions regarding harassment, precisely so that our staff can be informed. And knowledge is strengthened to manage a safer and healthier environment,” emphasizes Denise.
For Lina Magno, manager of Worker Health at the Santa Casa Foundation, worker health is an investment. “Through the Bem Viver project, which is a large umbrella that seeks workplace safety, health, and quality of life. We need to have a very robust technical team regarding safety. And this week we will reinforce the vaccination campaign, where everyone is invited to get vaccinated.”
The Labor Prosecutor, Élcio Araújo, who participated in the opening panel, provided an overview of the historical moment of the date, which arose due to a workplace accident that victimized dozens of people in the USA in 1968. “Cipa, in this context, is an essential and necessary body, so it is important that Cipa has the authority to work, has independence, job security. Because it is one of the bodies that must be proactive. It cannot be just a body that receives complaints. It should be an active body, that is there on the front line, that has a good relationship with workers, to actively escort what they have to say,” highlights the prosecutor.
Bruno Carmona, president of the Santa Casa Foundation, emphasized the management's work in reinforcing work campaigns that benefit employees and users. “Santa Casa seeks to carry out its tasks and missions well, and I understood this from the beginning of my management. As a Public Hospital, as a 100% SUS Hospital. And to keep the machinery of an entire block functioning properly, taking care of sick people, our employee must be happy, working happily, adequately compensated within their tasks. We can never and in no way accept any type of harassment. Harassment, in general, is unacceptable, and misconduct should be treated as misconduct. This is very simple to do. We have all the institutional structure to conduct this,” points out the manager.
