Açaí processors receive training on good fruit handling practices
The course results from a joint action by Sedap, through the Directorate of Fairs and Markets, with the City Hall of Belém, through the Casa do Açaí and the Health Surveillance

With the participation of 30 açaí processors, the Secretary of Agricultural Development and Fishing (Sedap), through the Directorate of Fairs and Markets (DFM), held training on Thursday (24) to provide guidance on good practices in açaí processing. The work was a partnership with the Municipal Government of Belém, through the Health Surveillance and the Casa do Açaí, where the training took place. At the end of the course, the workers received the Food Handling Card.

One of the participants was açaí processor Rubem Medeiros, who enjoyed the experience, as he stated, due to the knowledge gained during the training. He sees the information about the criteria for regularizing the point of sale of the products as important.
"This course teaches and promotes when we go to buy and enter the store and see the difference, it reflects in the flavor of the açaí, it stays forever in memory,” said Rubem Medeiros.
Also highlighting the importance of the course was açaí handler, Heron Amaral, who shared some of his knowledge and practice with the participants during the training. Herson believes that the training is interesting because it is aimed at handlers who are not yet familiar with the proper procedures. He recalled that there is a state decree number 326/2012 that guides açaí handlers.
"By virtue of this decree, everyone must offer the consumer a final product free of pathogens; it is good for handlers to seek the Casa do Açaí, to get trained to offer the best to their consumer,” recommended Herson Amaral.
Opportunity - For the coordinator of good açaí practices at Sedap, Marivaldo Ferreira, this type of training offers the opportunity for processors to qualify to provide more safety to the population that consumes açaí.

“Here they learn all the stages of good açaí handling practices; we will have new training sessions and those interested can contact our Directorate of Fairs and Markets at Sedap,” he informed.
In this type of training, as explained by the coordinator of the Casa do Açaí, Débora Barros, participants receive guidance on all the steps that must be followed by the processor due to the state decree.
“From the harvesting of the fruit to the packaging (of the açaí, in the safest way so that the consumer has a quality food,” she explains.
Anyone who wants more information about new training sessions can contact the number (91) 3251-7979 and speak with the good açaí practices coordination at Sedap.
