In order to boost and stimulate the development of the chain in the State, Sedap maintains integrated work with municipalities and associations of beekeepers and meliponiculturists from different integration regions of Pará. Last Wednesday (26), representatives of the state institution participated in the inauguration of the Municipal Apiary of Castanhal, in northeastern Pará. The project is an important step to strengthen the honey production chain in the municipality. The space is located on the campus of the Federal Institute of the State of Pará (IFPA), which has been structured for the management of bees.

The location serves as a training center and practical activities, catering to local producers who participate in courses offered in partnership with IFPA and the National Rural Learning Service (Senar). Sedap was represented by the Animal Production coordinator, Andrio de Andrade, and by the cabinet advisor Gabriel Foro. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the mayor of the municipality, Hélio Leite, and the municipal secretariat, including the manager responsible for the Agriculture department, Francisco Carlos, as well as representatives from partner institutions, local beekeepers, and meliponiculturists. The State was also represented by technicians from the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company (Emater) and the Agricultural Defense Agency of Pará (Adepará).

Promotion- Like Castanhal, Sedap provides support to different municipalities in the State that operate in the honey chain. Among them is São João de Pirabas, also located in the northeastern region of Pará. The Animal Production coordinator of Sedap stated that the secretariat works to promote the honey chain, specifically beekeeping (stingless bees) and meliponiculture (stingless bees). “In Castanhal, before starting the project, Sedap was approached and provided technical information support,” Andrade recalled.

One of the actions of the secretariat, through Copan, is the registration of beekeepers with Adepará so that producers can formalize and access benefits, such as broader markets and obtaining quality certifications, in addition to strengthening the production chain and updating the sanitary registration.

“Pará has a very large production potential. We bring the institution and partners to the producer to facilitate this joint work,” highlights Andrade.
