Parents of newborns hospitalized in the Intermediate Care Unit (ICU) at Santa Casa participated on the afternoon of this Tuesday (25) in an action developed by nursing and speech therapy professionals from the neonatology department of Santa Casa, aimed at guiding mothers and fathers caring for premature babies. The activity took place in the format of a conversation circle with the caregivers.

“We addressed care for the baby, empowering caregivers as participants of the team, and the breastfeeding of premature infants. In addition to guidance, they received support and gifts,” informed speech therapist Luana Kellyn Ferreira.

For Valéria Cardoso, who gave birth to her baby at 36 weeks of gestation, the information reinforced the importance of breastfeeding for children's health. “I have three children and breastfed, but I always felt a bit uncomfortable; it wasn't something I enjoyed doing. But with the guidance, I saw how important breastfeeding is for the child's health and that we should strive for the baby to breastfeed when possible,” said Valéria.
