HOL receives donation of 63 hair strands and reinforces humanization actions for oncology patients
Partnership with the Fios de Amor project contributes to the making of wigs and reinforces emotional support for HOL's oncology patients
The Ophir Loyola Hospital received a donation of 63 hair strands from the Fios de Amor project, an initiative developed by Grupo Mateus with the purpose of strengthening the self-esteem of patients undergoing cancer treatment. The strands will be transformed into wigs by volunteer wig makers from the Humanization Sector, reaching patients who are facing the effects of chemotherapy and hair loss.
The Fios de Amor project emerged, according to its coordinator Evelin Oliveira, from the perception of Grupo Mateus's potential to contribute to the emotional well-being of women undergoing oncology treatment. "Donating self-esteem costs nothing," she states. The initiative has been active since 2018 and is now present in eleven cities across seven states, with nearly 30 partner salons, surpassing a thousand donations sent to institutions that welcome cancer patients.
The donation made to HOL is part of the project's commitment to support people undergoing oncology treatment. "It is a way to contribute to the self-esteem of patients, strengthening their energy to continue fighting. Those who donate know they are helping to restore beauty and self-confidence to a woman," Evelin emphasizes. She reinforces that the current biggest challenge is to increase the number of donors and reach more people with the campaign's message.
For HOL's Humanization coordinator, Michelle Azevedo, the impact is visible and transformative. "We have the opportunity to transform these strands into wigs, restoring the dignity and strength of the patients. Each delivery is significant. We welcome fragile women and see their self-esteem reborn," she states. The sector highlights that the initiative is aligned with comprehensive care, which considers physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions.
The HOL Board emphasizes that initiatives like this are essential for the well-being and quality of life of patients, reaffirming the institutional commitment to humanized actions and partnerships that make a difference in the journey of oncology treatment.
The hospital also highlights that anyone wishing to contribute with donations of strands, materials, or volunteer support can contact the Humanization Sector, which will guide on ways to participate and forward contributions:
