Fluvial Base ‘Candiru’ seizes irregular cargo of cell phones, automotive parts, and tires
The seized material was destined for the city of Santarém, in the Lower Amazon region
The integrated work of the security forces operating at the Integrated Fluvial Base ‘Candiru’, in Óbidos, resulted in a large seizure on Tuesday (18) after an inspection of a vessel transporting goods between Manaus, in Amazonas, and Santarém, in the Lower Amazon region. Among the items were cell phones, hubcaps, and various tires.
The operation, carried out by the personnel of the Fluvial Base, included staff from the Fluvial Group, linked to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), along with military and civilian police, as well as inspectors from the Secretary of Finance of Pará (Sefa), boarded the vessel “Jorge Henrique I”.
During routine inspections, the agents identified an irregular cargo of 120 cell phones, 50 hubcaps, and 825 tires, for motorcycles and popular cars, without the proper fiscal documentation for transport. Given the atypical situation, the irregular goods were seized, and an administrative procedure was initiated by Sefa.
“The vessel was traveling from Manaus-AM to Santarém-PA. It was found carrying goods without accompanying fiscal documentation. To collect the tax and the fine, a Seizure and Deposit Term (TAD) was issued, amounting to R$ 158,422.69, reported the coordinator of Goods Control in Transit of Tapajós, Roberto Mota.
For the Secretary of Segup, Ualame Machado, the seizure is a direct blow against illegal trade and smuggling in the region. “The irregular goods, besides evading taxes, often finance illicit activities and put the final consumer at risk, especially in the case of tires without provenance or certified quality. The ostensible presence and efficient inspection on our waterways are essential to ensure economic security and public order. We will remain steadfast in combating all forms of illegality,” he emphasized.
