State Policy on Agroecology, Organic Production, and Sociobiodiversity Presented by Sedap at COP30 Programming
The secretariat participated in the International Forum discussing the future of family farmers and traditional communities. The programming at Agrizone will conclude at the end of the afternoon this Monday (17)
Published by the State Government in July of this year in the Official State Gazette (DOE), the State Policy on Agroecology, Organic Production, and Sociobiodiversity (Peapos) was presented to the public attending the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) at Agrizone, located at the headquarters of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). The presentation was part of the International Forum on Family Agriculture and Traditional Communities, which will conclude at the end of the afternoon this Monday (17).
Peapos is a collective construction that involves, in addition to representatives from the state sphere, the participation of organized civil society and federal research institutions as well as the private sector, as explained by agronomist Ivanize Carvalho, who represented the Secretary of Agricultural Development and Fisheries on the panel "Agroforestry Systems and Restoration," mediated by Embrapa. She also represented the State Council for Sustainable Rural Development (CEDRS).
According to the agronomist, Peapos "aims to promote and encourage the development of agroecology, organic production systems, and sustainable extraction, as well as systems in the process of agroecological transition."
During the programming, a brief history of the construction of the draft law proposal for Peapos was presented, which will be implemented by the State, as explained by Carvalho, in cooperation with the Union, the Municipalities, civil society organizations, and private entities, in accordance with Federal Law No. 10,831, of December 23, 2003, which provides for organic agriculture, and Federal Decree No. 7,794, of August 20, 2012, which establishes the National Policy on Agroecology and Organic Production (PNAPO) and other related federal laws.
The management body of the State Policy on Agroecology, as established by law, is the CEDRS, which will ensure equal participation of civil society and the formulation and monitoring of Peapos, as detailed by Ivanize Carvalho.
