The Green Zone of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30) in Belém was the chosen setting by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) for the launch of the "CBF Impacta" program, aimed at socio-environmental transformation and the sustainability of Brazilian sports. On the morning of this Wednesday (12), the initiative was presented to the public and to Vice Governor Hana Ghassan by CBF Vice President Ricardo Gluck Paul.

The "CBF Impacta" proposes innovations in the social and financial management of the entity and clubs, with a primary focus on the environmental axis: to make the CBF the first football confederation in the world 100% carbon neutral by 2026, through environmental compensation actions and encouragement of the carbon credit market, which can directly benefit States with living forests, such as Pará.

Vice Governor Hana Ghassan highlighted the alignment of the initiative with the environmental policies of the Pará government and the strategic role of the State in the global climate agenda. “It is very important to have this convergence of agendas. The CBF's environmental agenda is extremely relevant and objective, with concrete and simple actions to implement, which help the population understand how each one can contribute to this cause. And that is what we want: real solutions to ensure the future of the planet,” she stated.

Hana also emphasized the importance of uniting football with environmental causes, reinforcing the potential of the sport as a tool for awareness. “We are happy and want to be partners with the CBF in these environmental causes, contributing to make their action a multiplying factor. Football has the power to move people,” she said.

The vice governor also recalled the State government's effort in consolidating carbon compensation policies and green financing. “Pará has been fighting to secure funding for these agendas, and COP is the great moment to give visibility to the projects that already exist. Before, we traveled the world presenting our projects. Today, the world is in Belém and can get to know our initiatives up close,” highlighted Hana Ghassan.

Football and the environment united for sustainability

To achieve emission neutrality, the CBF will promote the carbon credit market, benefiting clubs and federations located in regions with living forests, such as the Amazon. “The CBF will buy these credits to compensate for what we cannot mitigate. I believe this will be studied by the federations and clubs, because there are great financial opportunities that can make this wheel turn better,” explained CBF Vice President Ricardo Gluck Paul.
