The Military Police of Pará (PMPA) published this week the inclusion of five new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) aimed at traffic policing on state highways. The measures were instituted with the aim of standardizing and improving the performance of the units in inspections, roadblocks, and traffic incidents throughout the State.

Among the new procedures are inspections and approaches during police roadblocks, first intervention protocols in road closures and their developments, the use of drones in inspections, police action upon detecting intoxication or use of psychoactive substances in drivers, and vehicle and document identification in police operations.

The SOPs were developed and are part of the PMPA Traffic Policing Process, aligning the actions of the corporation with the guidelines of the Basic Organization Law of the Military Police of Pará (Complementary Law No. 053/2006) and the General Ostensive Policing Manual (POG).

The new set of norms defines technical and legal criteria for approaches, use of equipment, signaling, safety of agents, and guarantee of citizens' rights. One of the highlights is the regulated use of drones in highway operations, which will allow remote inspections and the recording of infractions with greater precision and safety, as provided for in resolutions from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) and the National Traffic Council (Contran).

Another relevant point is the intervention protocol in state road closures, which establishes guidelines for the first response to blockages and demonstrations, prioritizing conflict mediation in accordance with the corporation's Crisis Management Manual.

The new guidelines also reinforce the fight against drunk driving, detailing the procedures for the application of the breathalyzer and the legal developments according to the Brazilian Traffic Code.

“The adoption of these new Standard Operating Procedures represents another step in the modernization process of the Military Police of Pará. Our goal is to ensure that every traffic policing action is carried out within legal parameters, with technique, safety, and respect for the citizen. The standardization of operational conduct brings more predictability to approaches, increases society's trust, and reinforces the corporation's commitment to preserving life and public order on state highways,” highlighted the PMPA commander, Colonel Sérgio Neves.
