Detran intensifies presence on the roads in the first week of COP30

Agents operate at 11 points to organize the city's traffic

Control of flow and fluidity are among Detran's objectives at the Conference

The organization and fluidity of traffic in Belém, especially in the area of Parque da Cidade, are among the main structural challenges of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). In this first official week of the event, the inspection agents of the State Department of Transit (Detran) intensify their presence on the capital's roads where there are blockades.

In the Green Zone area, the movement of people and vehicles is intense all day long. At all times, COP30 participants and residents of Belém passing through the area seek guidance from the agency's agents, mainly regarding permitted parking locations and how to move to other points in the city. At least 10 agents are spread out only on Avenida Senador Lemos, in the access area to the Green Zone, to assist both those arriving by car and pedestrians.

For driver Rafael Silva, Detran's actions have been essential for organizing traffic at COP

App driver Rafael Silva says he is receiving numerous calls from clients for COP and that, despite the intensity of traffic since the beginning of the Conference, Detran's actions are making a difference in mobility. “It has been great even to avoid confusion and accidents. Detran's guidance has been very beneficial in improving the flow of vehicles on the streets of Belém,” he comments.

Another reinforcement of the agent's workforce is concentrated around the entire Blue Zone area, where the roads are completely or partially blocked. The agents assist in vehicle traffic, mainly in identifying vehicles accredited for COP and in unblocking roads where traffic is allowed. “The main goal is to ensure the safety of pedestrians accessing the event and to make traffic flow on the unblocked roads,” informs Detran inspection agent Walisson Souza.

The entire operation is monitored by the Traffic Control Center

He warns about pedestrian crossings at the smart traffic lights installed at various points in the city. “The traffic lights are in intermittent mode, that is, in alert. Pedestrians can press the black button with a blue LED installed on the equipment's structure to open the crossing time at any moment, and also raise their hand indicating they wish to cross, at which point vehicles are required to stop,” details the agent. At all these points, there is always a Detran agent or an agent from the Belém Security, Public Order, and Mobility Secretariat (Segbel) to guide the crossing.

The operation of blocking and unblocking with patrolling and flow control of the roads takes place at least at 11 points in Belém, including Avenida Senador Lemos, Dr. Freitas, Duque de Caxias, Almirante Barroso, and Perimetral, as well as Passage São Luís and Rua 02 de Dezembro, near the Outeiro bridge.

All operational command occurs in an integrated manner with Segbel, Federal Highway Police, Military Police, and Municipal Guard from the Traffic Control Center, coordinated by Detran around Parque da Cidade. The structure was installed in a strategic area to ensure prompt service to the population, control the traffic light system, support the teams operating on the roads and in escorts. "So far, the operation flows intensely without major incidents at the 11 points of action,” explains Detran inspection agent Malu Batista.
