Federal Government launches Prospera Sociobioeconomy Program at the Bioeconomy Park
The initiative aims to strengthen a community business ecosystem that values environmental and sociocultural services and the diversification of sustainable biomass.
The Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon, in Belém, was the stage on Tuesday (11) for the launch of the Prospera Sociobioeconomy Program, an initiative of the Federal Government, through the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA), aimed at strengthening sociobioeconomy, with support actions for community organizations through access to credit, technical assistance, and training.
The launch took place during the "Connections for Bioeconomy Forum" promoted by the Secretary of Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas). The event, focused on boosting low-carbon socioeconomic development in the Amazon, brought together experts, leaders, and initiatives working in the bioeconomy chains.
Focusing on valuing traditional peoples, the program was designed based on listening to and involving the communities. The proposal is to strengthen a community business ecosystem that values environmental and sociocultural services, promotes health and well-being, and stimulates the development of renewable biochemicals, the production and diversification of sustainable biomass, and the bioeconomy of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
Carina Pimenta, national secretary of Bioeconomy at MMA, began the project presentation by reinforcing the program's objective: "to generate a new cycle of prosperity for the involved communities," she stated. "It could not have been done any other way, without the participation of everyone here, as well as the social participation of all the involved communities."
"It is a joy to see the launch of Prospera Sociobioeconomy at the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon. This moment is the result of a joint and tireless effort, built since 2022 with PlanBio and with the support of the National Secretary of Bioeconomy. We show that it is possible to implement an inclusive and transformative public policy. Pará reaffirms its commitment to integrate subnational and national policies, strengthening sociobioeconomy with more economic, social, and environmental impact," highlighted the deputy secretary of Bioeconomy at Semas, Camille Bemerguy.
With national scope, the Prospera Sociobioeconomy encompasses traditional peoples and Brazilian biomes, structuring itself based on some foundations that guide the project, acting in an integrated manner in territories with a strong presence of these communities, strengthening local developments and boosting community businesses, cooperatives, and small enterprises through actions adapted to regional realities. The program will also feature an intelligence and data collection platform to enhance the mapping of initiatives and the identification of beneficiary communities.
The presentation panel included the presence of the executive secretary of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, João Paulo Capobianco; Fernanda Machiavelli, executive secretary of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, representing Minister Paulo Teixeira; Júlia Cruz, secretary of Green Economy, Decarbonization, and Bioindustry; the deputy secretary of Bioeconomy at Semas, Camille Bemerguy; the director of the National Council of Extractive Populations (CNS), Ivanildo Brilhante; and the executive secretary of the Cerrado Network, Ingrid Silveira.
