Joint operation executes arrest warrants for drug trafficking and criminal association in Abaetetuba
Operation "Shield Phase III" aimed to dismantle the actions of a criminal organization in the municipality
On Tuesday (11), the Civil Police, in collaboration with the Military Police, launched the operation "Shield Phase III" in Abaetetuba, in the Lower Tocantins region. The aim of the action was to execute preventive arrest warrants and search and seizure warrants for the crimes of criminal association, drug trafficking, extortion, threats, and planning an attack.
The action is a continuation of ongoing efforts to combat a criminal organization responsible for the increase in violent acts in the municipality, including the well-known "boxes", drug trafficking, and attacks against security forces. The escalation of violence intensified after the deaths of two leaders of the organization in an operation that took place in Rio de Janeiro and an attack on a police vehicle during the funeral of the two men in Abaetetuba.
According to the Director of the Interior Police, Hennison Jacob, the first phase of the "Shield Operation" began in November of this year as a response. "The result was the arrest of the sister of one of the deceased men, investigated for taking control locally and planning retaliations. Arrests were also made in the act of other members for trafficking and extortion, all linked to fundraising for the criminal group," explained the director.
Continuity of actions - During the third phase of the operation, the preventive arrest warrants for two suspects were executed, and two mobile phones were seized. One of them is identified as the organization's "discipline".
The agents also executed the arrest warrant against a man who was already in custody at the Abaetetuba prison. One of the suspects remains at large, and investigations are ongoing to locate him.
According to the head of the Regional Superintendency of Lower Tocantins, Mhoab Khayan, the unfolding of the operation reinforces the ongoing work to combat crime in the region. "During the operations, the Civil Police teams made another arrest in the act of a duo, also members of the criminal group. Both were charged with drug trafficking and association with trafficking, with 15 packets of a substance similar to crack being seized," explained the superintendent.
The detainees and the seized material were taken to the Regional Superintendency for the necessary procedures. The individuals are in the process of being transferred to the municipal prison, remaining at the disposal of the Justice.
