“To Aldo, my thanks for the invitation to be together in this endeavor. You witnessed the premiere of this work, with the work of this great man from the North who was, who is, and will always be Gonçalves Dias,” commented composer Gilberto Gil.

The opera inspired by the poem by Gonçalves Dias proposes a contemporary reading of the text, addressing the Amazonian indigenous universe from the perspective of ecopoetics. The presentation featured the participation of the Symphony Orchestra of Theatro da Paz, the Carlos Gomes Choir, lyrical singers, and artists from the Bahia Opera Center (NOP) and the indigenous group Huni Kuin from Acre.

“It is an honor for our Opera Festival to close with a production that dives into the symbolic universe of our indigenous peoples of this rich Amazon in culture, memory, and ancestry,” highlighted Ursula Vidal.

The initiative is a realization of the NOP, in co-realization with the Government of Pará, through Secult with production by ComArte Produções, support from the Boca de Brasa program, the Gregório de Mattos Foundation, and the Culture and Tourism Secretariat of the City Hall of Salvador. The show received television media support from France Télévisions, and sponsorship from BNDES and presentation by BB Consórcios.
