The Air Group of Public Security (Graesp), linked to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), carried out, this Sunday (9), the transportation of two kidneys harvested in Belém to be transplanted in patients in the municipalities of Redenção and Santarém.

This action is part of Graesp's service axis in support of the Secretary of Public Health (Sespa), being necessary to ensure the agility of organ transportation, with a swift effort led by the team of pilots from the Air Group and health professionals from Belém and the hospitals where the patients from Santarém and Redenção are located.

According to the director of the Air Group of Public Security, Colonel PM Armando Gonçalves, considering the territorial size of Pará, Graesp is promptly qualified to meet the demands for organ transportation, aiming to shorten the necessary distances. “In light of demands in support of health care, our teams need to act with agility and safety, having an aircraft ready and with maintenance done, so that we can proceed in our mission to any location. This time, our team moved to two regions of the State, in order to expedite the transportation of the organs, to save lives and assist in other missions that may arise,” pointed out the director of Graesp.

The health professionals who are part of the State Transplant Center emphasize that the agility of transportation is fundamental for the success of transplants, since once outside the body, most organs and tissues remain suitable for transplantation only for a few hours. Therefore, still on the afternoon of last Sunday (9), shortly after the harvesting, the left and right kidneys were transferred by the Group from the capital of Pará to the Regional Hospital of Redenção, and subsequently the other to the Regional Hospital of Santarém, where patients were already waiting for the transplants to be performed.
