Prepared to host the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), Belém has gained a new look on the streets. The regulated taxis of the capital of Pará have been stickered with the colors and logos of the event, in an action coordinated by the government of Pará, through the State Department of Transit (Detran).

The goal is to standardize and facilitate the identification of the official vehicles that will serve residents, tourists, and delegations during the conference. The initiative is optional and collaborative, aimed at permit holders duly registered with the Municipal Secretariat of Security, Public Order, and Mobility of Belém (Segbel).

Vice Governor Hana Ghassan highlighted the positive impact of COP30 on the economy and the transportation sector. “COP30 boosts the economy and changes the routine of the city. It is an effective legacy of job and income generation. Taxi drivers can increase the number of passengers and improve family income, generating prospects for a better future. That’s what we want for Belém and for Pará: a stronger economy with opportunities for our population. Congratulations to Detran for the action that is making the taxis more beautiful and identified for the event,” she emphasized.

Taxi driver Eduarda Lopes thanked the state government for the initiative

A taxi driver for over 22 years at Belém International Airport, Eduarda Lopes approved the novelty. “For us, it made identification much easier because tourists arrive and quickly recognize our cars. They want to go safely wherever they go, and safety nowadays is everything. We had no cost; it was completely free. I thank the state government for doing this for us. Now we just have to be grateful,” she said.

In addition to the visual standardization, professionals also participated in free training courses offered by Detran. This week, three thousand certificates were delivered to taxi drivers, motorcycle taxi drivers, and app drivers.

The general director of Detran-PA, Renata Coelho, emphasized the importance of the action to strengthen the image of the host city of COP30 and improve the experience of visitors. “This initiative is a gesture of hospitality and appreciation for our professionals. In addition to reinforcing the visual identity of the conference, it helps tourists and residents more easily recognize the regulated taxis, promoting safety, organization, and pride for those who work on the streets of Belém,” she stated.

The action is part of the mobility and urban organization plan of the capital, which foresees improvements in transportation, signage, and infrastructure, aligned with the guidelines of sustainability and hospitality for visitors. The expectation is that thousands of people, including authorities and representatives from various countries, will circulate through Belém during the event, and taxi drivers will play an essential role in this movement.
