The seminar "Municipalities in Pará in Climate Balance", promoted by the Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio), on this Thursday (6), in Belém, brought together environment secretaries, technicians, and specialists from 47 municipalities in the State to share their experiences regarding the process of creating municipal protected areas.

During the "Municipal Experiences" panel, representatives from Bragança, Bujaru, Concórdia do Pará, and Igarapé-Açu presented local experiences on the creation of conservation areas, in partnership with Ideflor-Bio. On this occasion, they exemplified the importance of joint work to achieve the expected results.

According to the coordinator of the Environment Secretary of Igarapé-Açu, Eliton Araújo, the event is important and historic for the municipalities and the State. "This seminar, developed by Ideflor-Bio, is historic. Because, with the gathering of these more than 40 municipalities, these cities will be able to manage these spaces based on the learning from this event," he emphasized.

Experiences with other municipalities - The Environment Secretary of Concórdia do Pará, Magnaldo Menezes, highlighted that the seminar is important for other municipalities to have ideas and learn about the creation of Conservation Units (UCs), based on the experiences of the municipalities. "This event allows municipalities that have already created these municipal UCs to present, to those interested in creating these spaces, the step-by-step process on how to proceed in this case, thus preserving our forests," said the environmental manager.

The Environment Secretary of Bujaru, Leuda Coelho, emphasized the importance of creating a conservation unit in her municipality, in the area of the old Engenho do Bom Intento, to preserve the history and nature of the region, as well as to generate income. "Bom Intento is part of the history of Bujaru, and the creation of this space, which is close to quilombola areas, allows for income generation for these families, in addition to preserving the ruins and the nature of the region," she emphasized.

After the day's lectures, seminar participants took part in a visit to the Utinga State Park, which included a lecture on the conservation unit, present equipment, and management of the space, given by the manager of the Administrative Region of Belém, Júlio Meyer.
