The Fire Department of Pará will have a strong infrastructure in the Blue Zone of COP 30 in Belém

On the morning of this Wednesday, the 5th, the Military Fire Department of Pará (CBMPA) held the launch ceremony of the COP30 Operation in Belém, employing over a thousand military personnel in prevention and safety actions, both in the capital and on the roads and beach areas of the state.

The ceremony took place at the command headquarters with the representative presence of 180 of the 518 military personnel who underwent specific training to act in COP30, as the Fire Department is the only security force among state agencies present in the Blue Zone - the area of the event that will be managed by the UN.

"We have allocated 518 military firefighters for the operation, of which 106 are specifically in the blue area, in addition to 33 operational vehicles and 18 boats, as well as service crews from all operational fire stations, totaling 1,036 military firefighters ready for deployment for COP30," informs the commander-general of CBMPA and state coordinator of protection and civil defense, Colonel Jayme de Aviz Benjó.

The commander explains that the operation received specific investments that will ensure the necessary structure for the corporation to operate throughout the event.

"It was an investment that exceeded R$ 14 billion: there are 15 rescue units, two fire-fighting trucks, 11 of the most modern drones with thermal cameras, and also two ATVs and two jet skis. So it was a significant investment aimed at COP30, but it is also a legacy that remains for the corporation, to serve the people of Pará in the 144 municipalities," declares the military.

Coordinated Operation

The commander-general of the Fire Department states that the operation has been planned in coordination with the State Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), and is aligned at both national and international levels.

"We are following the security planning that was made through the Secretary of Public Security (Segup), in a permanent articulation with the Federal Government and with UN security agents. We have direct communication with the commander of the Fire Department of New York, who is part of UN security, specifically focused on emergency firefighting activities."

Addressing the troops that were trained and presented on the morning of this Wednesday, the 5th, the commander-general of the Fire Department spoke of confidence in the preparation of the corporation to act in COP30: "There is no doubt that this valiant troop will provide the best military firefighting and civil defense protection service. Today, CBMPA begins its operations to protect and safeguard our State, to welcome the public to one of the main events on climate change in the world, COP 30. It is a very important event, in defense and protection of our environment, and it is an honor for our state to host this event."

Security for the capital, roads, and beach resorts

The Operations Commander of CBMPA, Colonel Ricardo Anaissi, says that since March of this year, the corporation has been carrying out a series of specific activities in preparation for COP30, including leveling instructions and simulations of occurrences that may occur both in the capital and on the roads and in beach resorts.

"In the blue zone, which will be managed by the UN, we have four complete teams, as if they were four fire stations: four fire-fighting vehicles, four rescue vehicles, four rescue units, first response vehicles for hazardous materials, ladder trucks, and high-capacity water tanks with 30,000 liters. So it is a considerable reinforcement within the blue zone, in addition to 52 military personnel firmly on foot within the internal spaces. Each day, 106 military personnel will be deployed in this area to provide all this security for the people attending the event," he informs.

In addition, the corporation plans to intensify the presence of firefighters on beaches where an increase in the number of visitors is expected over the coming weeks.

"We will have lifeguard beach protection services in places that we presume will be most frequented, such as Salinas, Mosqueiro, Ilha do Combu, Cotijuba, Marudá, Ajuruteua, Marajó, and Santarém. We also have teams deployed on the roads, already aiming for any type of accident that may occur during the movement of these people to the beach resorts," adds Colonel Ricardo.

Anniversary of the Fire Department

The COP30 Operation of the Fire Department will precede the celebrations of the 143rd anniversary of the corporation, which will be completed on November 24, 2025. The commander-general of CBMPA, Jayme Benjó, commented on the advances that the corporation has made in recent years and are among the reasons to celebrate:

"This year, since January, we have already signed a partnership with the National Development Bank for our firefighting actions in the Amazon - an investment of R$ 45 million; we also had the entry of 485 students for the officer and enlisted courses, to strengthen our main asset: human resources; we approved our Basic Organizational Law - the last one was from 1992, which was outdated for over 30 years, and allows us greater reach throughout the State of Pará, making us a robust Fire Department," he celebrates.

The week leading up to the institutional anniversary will be marked by important deliveries and more investments in the corporation - the commander-general anticipates:

"We will have more fire-fighting trucks, more rescue units, culminating on the 24th with the inauguration of our Memorial, which is like a museum of the corporation. It will be located in the old Command General headquarters, a historic building that has undergone a restoration that lasted three years. The population that visits our memorial will take a journey through time, from when firefighters fought fires with horse-drawn carriages, from the first uniforms to the most modern uniforms of today. So, it will be a journey through the history of the Fire Department," assures the military.
