The Pará Sanitation Company (Cosanpa) started this week the distribution of approximately 3,500 books to public schools in Belém, Ananindeua, and Marituba, municipalities in the Metropolitan Region, in the areas of the Pará Sanitation Development Project (Prodesan).

This Tuesday (4), there was distribution to 15 educational units in the neighborhoods of Jurunas, Condor, Batista Campos, and Terra Firme, in Belém. Collections of children's literary works and other educational materials were delivered, which will be used by students and teachers.

The material delivered by Cosanpa to the schools was well received by students and teachers

By next month, 76 schools and community centers, in addition to approximately 30,000 people, will benefit from donations of boxes of books and educational games.

“We are very happy with the result of the campaign, the donations, and the receptivity in the schools, because we know how much reading can change lives. Certainly, this material will be used in the best way to strengthen education through the encouragement and access to reading,” said Layla Gomes, Environmental and Social Deputy Coordinator of Prodesan-Pará.

In addition to representatives from Cosanpa, the delivery included the participation of members of the State Department of Education (Seduc) and the State Attorney General's Office (PGE), an agency that collected more than 3,000 books for donation during an internal competition held in the first half of the year, as part of the actions celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Attorney General's Office.

"We understand that bringing books and ensuring access for children and young people to literature is providing access to a powerful information tool for building critical thinking and access to knowledge,” said Eduarda Lobo, a PGE employee and member of the Organizing Committee for the 40th anniversary celebrations of the PGE.

A Portuguese Language trainer at Seduc, Williane Santos emphasized the importance of the new materials for students. “There is no teacher without a book and no school without reading. Thus, we awaken the taste for reading, for education, for knowledge, and for the formation of our citizens, who are here with us to grow and contribute to society,” highlighted Williane Santos.

The book donation campaign was carried out by Cosanpa in March of this year, as part of the Prodesan Citizenship actions, which aims to expand the positive social impacts around the sanitation works of the Project, promoting reading in educational units to transform them into environments of social transformation, community participation, and promotion of rights.
