New Tamandaré Terminal begins operations and inaugurates a new phase in waterway transportation in Pará

With the transfer of operations from Ver-o-Peso to the new space, the terminal modernizes the boarding and disembarking of passengers between Belém, Barcarena, and Cotijuba, offering more comfort, safety, and efficiency to those who depend daily on river transport.

The waterway transport between Belém, Barcarena, and Cotijuba entered a new phase this Tuesday (4), with the start of operations at the Tamandaré Waterway Terminal, which now concentrates all the vessels that previously operated at Ver-o-Peso. The new space, delivered by the government of Pará, represents a historic advance in the modernization of the port infrastructure of the Metropolitan Region of Belém and was designed to ensure more comfort, safety, and accessibility for passengers, a legacy of COP 30.

“The start of river operations at the Tamandaré Terminal represents a leap in quality for waterway transport. It is a space that respects the passenger and values the workers and operators who depend on this mode. This new phase requires that comfort and efficiency go hand in hand to improve the experience of those who rely daily on the vessels for transportation,” highlights the general director of Artran, Luciano Dias.

Maritime worker Sandra Valéria approved the new structure

The first day of operation was intense and marked by approval among passengers, operators, and workers in the sector. “A mega structure! Tourists arriving here will feel safe and welcomed. It is comfortable for passengers and even for those who work here. There is a restaurant, a square, and areas where you can spend time with family before the trip. Very cool!” said maritime worker Sandra Valéria.

The Transport Controller of Artran, Anderson Silva, defines this transfer of operation as the beginning of a new era. “24 hours ago we were at Ver-o-Peso, ending decades of operation. Now we are starting a new moment, in a modern and comfortable space, and being part of this fills me with pride. This place has an indescribable structure, the movement is intense, and we are working just as we ended there at Ver-o-Peso, at full steam,” he concluded.

The river sailor Rafael Nogueira said he was surprised by the ease of docking the vessel at the new Tamandaré Waterway Terminal. “This place is amazing. Mobility has improved a lot, the ramp is wider, and this greatly facilitates the boarding and disembarking of passengers. This is of hard excellence, so I say that for me the terminal is tested and approved,” he emphasized.

Among the passengers, the approval was also immediate. Daniene Almeida, a resident of Barcarena, says that the new terminal has brought more dignity to the trips she makes to Belém for health treatment. “It has improved a lot. At Ver-o-Peso it was dangerous, there was a bad smell, and the sun was strong. Here it is beautiful, safe, and comfortable. The state government deserves congratulations. Now, besides traveling, I took the opportunity to take photos and capture this beautiful moment,” she celebrated.

Daniene's perception is shared by those who work daily in river transport. Businessman Moisés Pinheiro, a line operator, guarantees that everything has changed and therefore celebrates: “Now we have accessibility, air conditioning, and safety. At Ver-o-Peso, the passenger arrived and had to board immediately because there was no structure. Today we have waiting rooms, a snack bar, and even a space to enjoy the scenery. It’s another level, truly an advancement for all of us,” concludes the permit holder.

Operation - Operations at the Tamandaré Terminal start daily at 5:50 AM and continue until 6:30 PM. Crossings to Barcarena occur every 30 minutes, with the regular operation of four companies authorized and supervised by Artran, ensuring safety and regularity in the service. An extra boat, in partnership with the municipality of Barcarena, provides exclusive transportation for students at 10 PM. The fare is a flat rate of R$ 17.58, with free passage for people aged 65 and over, children under six years old, and people with disabilities. In addition to the main destination, the terminal also offers the Belém-Cotijuba line, departing Monday to Friday at 12 PM, and returning the next day at 8 AM. On weekends, the trip occurs at 8 AM, expanding options for those seeking leisure and transportation between the islands.
