In just seven months of operation, the Hospital da Mulher do Pará (HMPA) has been standing out in sustainable initiatives. The recognition of the unit has gone beyond the borders of the state of Pará and received an honorable mention at the 18th edition of the Sustainable Hospitals Seminar (SHS) 2025, one of the main national events with broad representation in the discussion on sustainability and socio-environmental management in the health sector. The program took place on October 28, 29, and 30, at the Sírio Libanês Hospital in São Paulo.

The seminar, which this year had the theme “Climate is Health, Health is Climate,” included the presentation of works developed by institutions from all over the country, and the Hospital da Mulher do Pará was represented by the article titled "Sustainable practices in the imaging sector: efficient infrastructure and reduction of environmental impact in tomography exams at the Hospital da Mulher do Pará," shared with the event participants by the operational supervisor of HMPA, Allan Aquino. The work was selected for presentation in the “Professional Experience” category and displayed in poster format.

The article was awarded an honorable mention at the Friend of the Environment Award (PAMA), promoted by the São Paulo State Health Department, in partnership with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

The study highlighted innovative initiatives implemented in the imaging sector of the Hospital da Mulher, demonstrating a significant reduction in the use of contrasts in tomography exams aimed at the female audience, which contributes to greater safety for patients and less generation of chemical waste. Additionally, actions to reduce disposable materials used in handling contrasts were presented, as well as the optimization of electricity consumption, achieved through the high-efficiency technology employed in the tomography machine installed at the hospital.

According to Allan Aquino, receiving the honorable mention at a reference event like the Sustainable Hospitals Seminar shows the commitment to sustainability. “We believe this is the right path; we seek solutions that minimize environmental impact and strengthen a culture of sustainability within the hospital,” said the professional.

This edition of the seminar brought together various actors from the health sector, including professors, students, researchers, professionals, and public and private managers to discuss solutions to current socio-environmental challenges in the sector.

The Hospital da Mulher do Pará, the Pronto Dr. Socorro Roberto Macedo (PSRM) in Belém, and the Regional Hospital of Transamazônica (HRPT) in Altamira, linked to the State Department of Public Health (Sespa) and managed by the Acqua Institute, were the three health units from the state of Pará awarded at SHS 2025.

Specialized care - The HMPA is a reference in specialized care for women through the Unified Health System in the state of Pará, providing gynecological emergencies, consultations, exams, and medium and high complexity surgeries, and is also the first hospital in the North region to provide exclusive care to women victims of sexual and domestic violence.
