Government of Pará opens the 10th regional stage of Joapa in Vigia, with over 800 athletes

Athletes from 13 municipalities participate in the competitions of the largest amateur sports event in the State, which continues until Sunday

The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel), held on Thursday night (30), in Vigia, in the northeast of the State, the opening ceremony of the 10th stage of the Guamá/Guajará Regional of the XIV edition of the Open Games of Pará (Joapa), the largest amateur sports competition in the State. The event took place at the “Manoel Soiá” Sports Gym, located on Avenida Marcionilo Alves, in the Santa Rita neighborhood, bringing together athletes, coaches, and local authorities.

In this edition, 890 athletes from 13 municipalities participate in the competitions representing Mãe do Rio, Castanhal, Curuçá, São Francisco, Vigia, Salinópolis, Bragança, Maracanã, São Domingos do Capim, Santa Izabel, Colares, Benevides, and Marituba. The competitions continue until Sunday (2), with contests in basketball, handball, futsal, beach soccer, volleyball, and table tennis.

The competition continues until this Sunday (2), when the champion of the Efficiency Trophy will be defined. The champions of the Guamá/Guajará regional secure a spot to represent their municipalities in the state stage of Joapa, scheduled for December in Belém.

The State Secretary of Sports and Leisure, Cássio Andrade, highlighted the importance of holding the last regional stage of Joapa and the role of the competition in strengthening amateur sports in Pará.

“We conclude here the opening of the tenth stage of the Open Games of the State of Pará, an event held by the State Government through Seel. There are almost a thousand athletes from 13 municipalities who will compete in various sports modalities. The Government of Pará encourages sports, promotes health, joy, and integration among communities. It is sports transforming lives and strengthening the interior of the State,” said the secretary.

The handball athlete from the municipality of Vigia, Camile Silva, spoke with emotion about the opportunity to represent her host city in the competition. “I am very happy that the games are happening here this year. The opening was beautiful, wonderful, and I hope that tomorrow we can achieve victory. It is a very good feeling to compete at home, it gives more confidence to pursue the title, God willing,” she emphasized.

Promotion of amateur sports - Created to promote sports throughout Pará, Joapa has established itself as the largest amateur sports competition in the State, involving all 144 municipalities in Pará. In addition to moving the sports calendar, the event promotes regional integration, discovery of new talents, and appreciation of athletes from the interior, reinforcing the commitment of the Government of Pará to ensure access to sports and leisure as rights of all citizens.
