The Tucuruí Regional Hospital Complex (HRT) and the High Complexity Oncology Assistance Unit (Unacon), linked to the State Government, concluded the programming of the Pink October campaign on the morning of last Wednesday (29) with a major action aimed at promoting women's health. The special activity offered free services and mobilized professionals, patients, and visitors on a day marked by information, care, and support.

The Day D program included a performance by the Unacon team choir, a health and beauty service tent, such as labor classes, blood typing, blood glucose testing, vital signs measurement, women's haircuts, manicures, eyebrow design, mammography, and Pap smear (PCCU) exams, in addition to the delivery of "Friend of Unacon" certificates. The action also integrated the state programming of Pink October, carried out by the Government of Pará in 18 municipalities.

Services, exams, and awareness

During the event, 76 women were attended to on a spontaneous demand basis for mammography exams, reinforcing the unit's commitment to early detection of breast cancer. Additionally, in partnership with the Municipal Health Department of Tucuruí, PCCU exams were offered.

Throughout the month, the Pink October campaign at the Tucuruí Hospital Complex included educational lectures and the performance of 96 mammography exams on female employees, consolidating prevention as the central axis of the initiative.

Doctor Leandro Araújo gave a lecture during the event, highlighting the benefits of self-examination and preventive care against breast cancer.

Unacon serves over 1,200 women with breast cancer

The general director of the Hospital Complex, Júnior Souto, highlighted the impact of the campaign and the advances in oncological care offered by the State Government. "It was a moment of raising awareness among women about the importance of care, self-examination, and performing exams that allow for early diagnosis of breast cancer. Unacon is currently treating 1,208 women with breast cancer, providing complete care: from biopsy to treatment. Thanks to partnerships with Sespa, the Tucuruí City Hall, and support from federal deputy Andreia Siqueira, we have been able to offer a humanized and modern service to our population," he stated.

Social control and appreciation of the public network

The president of the Municipal Health Council of Tucuruí, Júlio Pinheiro, reinforced the importance of society's involvement in public health actions.

"Actions like the Day D of Pink October are specially designed for women to seek care for the early diagnosis of breast cancer. They strengthen the SUS and demonstrate the commitment of the Government of Pará to the population of the region," he stated.

Testimonials mark the end of the campaign

Event promoter Raiza Pantoja, diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in 2024, shared her experience and reinforced the importance of actions like Pink October:

"I have already gone through chemotherapy, had surgery, and continue treatment. Unacon was essential for me to continue with my life without having to give up work or family. Participating in an event like this is a moment of self-esteem and hope. I always tell women who are starting treatment: be patient, have the will to live, and have faith — it’s temporary."

Rural resident Francisca Evelyn Alencar took advantage of the Day D services while accompanying her husband in treatment.

"I really liked this Day D. I got a haircut, makeup, and received a gift. It was a blessing to participate in this whole celebration."

Street vendor Valéria Dias Farias, 41, came from Breu Branco to have a mammogram. "I heard about the action and rushed to secure my spot. I was very well attended and managed to have the exam done. Congratulations to the governor and everyone for the initiative."

Prevention as an act of courage - Work nurse Raissa Cristina Lima de Moraes, responsible for conducting the exams, emphasized the impact of the campaign on the lives of the women attended.

"Prevention is always the best path; it saves lives. With mammography, we can identify cancer in its early stages, increasing the chances of cure. Just today we attended 76 women. Preventing is an act of love and courage."

Transition to Blue November - The Pink October campaign will officially end on October 31, giving way to the Blue November campaign, focused on men's health and prostate cancer prevention.
