The State Department of Transit (Detran) conducted practical exam services for first-time licensing and renewal aimed at people with disabilities (PwDs) on the morning of this Wednesday (29), including beneficiaries of the CNH Pai D’Égua Social Program, created and executed by the Government of Pará. The exam takes place in the presence of a medical board and Detran examiners, who verify the physical and psychological conditions of the candidates.

The National Driver's License (CNH) is the document that authorizes citizens to drive a vehicle, ensuring the right to drive within the norms established by traffic laws. The process for obtaining the CNH is the same for everyone, regardless of each person's condition. The difference, in the case of people with disabilities, is the need for evaluation by a medical board for the exams.

The exam is accompanied by a doctor

The CNH Pai D’égua Program also offers this opportunity to PwDs, facilitating access to licensing. So far, the Program has enabled the issuance of 60,000 driver's licenses throughout the State.

Eugênio Tavares: safety to drive

Peace of mind - Economist Eugênio Tavares, 66 years old, took the exam to renew his driver's license and emphasized the tranquility of the process. “I have been driving for a long time, and I found the exam very calm. You just have to follow all the information on the ground, which is in the signage. There’s no mistake. I use the car every day for my transportation, for work, and sometimes at night and on weekends with my family. It is essential to have the CNH, as it gives you the confidence to drive,” said Eugênio.

Among the most common disabilities among PwD drivers are vision and hearing impairments, spinal diseases, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, wheelchair use, amputations, and other conditions involving the absence of limbs.

Exam and evaluation - The Detran exam sector schedules appointments with the clinic through official correspondence, and the clinic is responsible for sending a doctor to accompany the exam. The exams for PwDs are monitored by the clinic's doctor, the Detran traffic examiner, and a member of the State Traffic Council (Cetran). The examiner evaluates the practical part of the traffic exam, the doctor is responsible for the clinical evaluation of the driver, and the Cetran representative checks if the vehicle complies with the report issued by the clinic.

The documents required by the agency for conducting the exams are the same for all candidates, and the services take place on pre-scheduled days and times.

Juarez Castro: more than 20 traffic exams conducted in the morning

The Detran traffic examiner for PwDs, Juarez Castro, 60 years old, reported that more than 20 traffic exams were conducted just this morning, including first-time licensing and CNH renewal. “The exams here at the headquarters are conducted on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with an average of 15 to 20 appointments on these two days of the week. This number has increased in the second half of 2025,” highlighted Juarez Castro.
