Military Police integrates explosion simulation with multiple victims in shopping mall in Belém
Exercise coordinated by the Northern Military Command tested integrated response protocols and reinforced the preparation of security forces for COP30
The Military Police of the State of Pará (PMPA) participated, on the morning of this Tuesday (28), in the Simulated Explosion Exercise with Multiple Victims, held at the Grão-Pará shopping mall in Belém. The action, coordinated by the Northern Military Command (CMN), brought together various security forces and civil institutions with the aim of testing integrated response protocols in crisis situations, especially in preparation for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30).
During the simulation, the PMPA acted in isolating the area, perimeter control, securing rescue teams, and assisting in the evacuation of victims. The corporation also integrated inter-agency coordination through the Joint Operational Command Marajoara, a structure created by the Ministry of Defense to unite efforts between the armed forces and state security forces during the climate conference. The operation also included the participation of helicopters from the Public Security Air Group (Graesp).
Investment and technical preparation
The head of the Military Police Staff, Colonel Ariel Sampaio, highlighted the investments of the state government in the qualification of security agents. According to him, the PMPA has expanded its operational and technical capacity through training and integrated actions. “The state government has invested heavily in the training of personnel. We have already conducted several courses and training focused on professional improvement, especially in crisis response and major events, ensuring an increasingly efficient performance prepared for challenges like COP30,” emphasized the colonel.
The head of the General Operations Department of the PMPA, Colonel Giorgio Mariúba, emphasized the importance of the exercise for the technical improvement of the teams and the integration between agencies. Among the participants from the state sphere were the Military Fire Brigade, the Scientific Police, and the Civil Police, in addition to the Military Police.
“The Military Police plays an essential role in occurrences of this nature, as it is the first force to arrive at the scene. This simulation allows us to test our protocols, strengthen cooperation with other institutions, and ensure a quick and efficient response in real situations. COP30 is an important milestone, but our focus is that this preparation reflects in the safety of the population every day,” he stated.
According to the exercise coordinator, Colonel Weber, from the Northern Military Command, the training reinforces the capacity for integration among the forces. “This operation is fundamental to improve joint protocols and ensure efficiency in responses to real incidents. COP30 is an opportunity to consolidate this integrated action,” he highlighted.
Public-private partnership
The security consultant for the Grão-Pará shopping mall, Marco Antônio Rocha, also emphasized the importance of the partnership in conducting the exercise. “This type of training develops our teams and increases the level of security for those who visit the shopping mall. Currently, the mall receives up to 35,000 people per day, especially during peak periods. With the climate conference, the audience is certainly expected to increase even more, and we are preparing to prevent any eventuality,” he stated.
