The paving of the first 26-kilometer stretch of Transcanadá, delivered in April of this year, has already changed the routine of workers, drivers, and families in southeast Pará. The highway, which connects Canaã dos Carajás to Água Azul do Norte, has left behind the dust and mud that hindered the population's movement and has become synonymous with development and quality of life.

Among the beneficiaries is Laércio Guida, a school transport driver who uses the road daily. “Before, the situation of the road was very precarious, it was dirt, a lot of dust, and during the rainy season, a lot of mud. Now, after the asphalt paving, it has improved. Traffic has improved 100%, it’s great. I take this route every day. It’s all paved up to Vila Canadá, which is 26 kilometers. This stretch has improved a lot, and we hope they finish the rest of this highway, until it reaches the PA, in the Curitibano community,” he said.

More speed and safety

The work has also brought gains in travel time and safety for those who depend on the road. Tractor driver Márcio Bezerra highlights the difference in routine. “In the past, it was a huge sacrifice to go to Canaã, with a pothole-filled road and a lot of mud. It was very difficult, bad bridges. It used to take two hours to get to Canaã by car, you could only go slowly. Now it’s really good, this same route can be done in 40, 35 minutes. Nowadays, we stopped going to solve things in Xinguara and now we only solve them in Canaã, because of the improvement of the asphalt. It has improved a lot, no comparison. There was a time we slept on the road because it was flooded and no car could pass,” he recalled.

Regional development

The paving of the first stretch is the result of an agreement between the State Government and the Municipality of Canaã dos Carajás. In addition to facilitating mobility, the work strengthens the local economy and expands the conditions for the flow of rural production.

Transcanadá was delivered in April of this year, and has positively changed the daily lives of workers, drivers, and families

According to the State Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Adler Silveira, the intervention goes far beyond improving trafficability.

“With this work, we are ensuring trafficability during all seasons of the year, improving the flow of production, reducing transportation costs, and connecting communities that for a long time lived under the burden of dust and mud. It is a victory for the residents, for the farmers, for those who depend on these roads to seek their rights, their income, and their development. We are paving the way for more jobs, more safety, and more opportunities, after all, infrastructure is the foundation for the progress of all of Pará,” he emphasized.

Next steps

The continuation of the paving to Vila Curitibano, on PA-279, is already underway. With the completion of the new stretches, Transcanadá is expected to consolidate as a strategic axis of regional integration, strengthening the economy and ensuring more comfort and safety for the population.
