The State Traffic Department (Detran) held an educational action this Thursday (23) in the area of the new overpass connecting Avenida Independência to Avenida Mário Covas in Ananindeua. The initiative aimed to guide cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers on the circulation and safety rules in the area, which will become part of the city's traffic flow.

Traffic Education teams were present throughout the morning and early afternoon, educating road users and reinforcing safe behaviors, such as respecting signage, using crosswalks, utilizing the bike lane, and the mandatory use of protective equipment by cyclists.

Detran traffic education agent Lucas Aguiar emphasized that the action aims to guide the public on the changes in signage at the intersection of the two avenues and ensure the safety of all road users. “We are here at a point of high traffic, near a gas station and a supermarket, where there is intense movement of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Our role is to clarify and guide the public on the correct use of the new bike lane, the crosswalk, and the installed signage, ensuring priority for the most vulnerable in traffic,” he explained.

The new overpass will be inaugurated this Saturday (25) by the state government. According to Detran, the new overpass will be an important corridor connecting Belém and municipalities in the Metropolitan Region and will have a high volume of vehicles, which is why the presence of teams on-site is essential to ensure that everyone understands the new routes and adopts responsible behaviors in traffic.

Detran's general director, Renata Coelho, spoke about the importance of the educational action. “The proposal is to guide, educate, and prevent accidents. Our role is to ensure that the new space is used safely by everyone, promoting harmonious coexistence among pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers,” she highlighted.

During the action, agents addressed and provided guidance on the importance of using the bike lane and safe crossing at the crosswalk, as well as being attentive at intersections, since the area will no longer have traffic lights.

Data analyst Carlos Santos emphasized the importance of the action

Data analyst and motorcyclist Carlos Santos, who uses Avenida Independência daily to get to work, believes that the initiative helps avoid risky situations. “We notice that many people are still adapting to the new route. These guidelines are important to remind everyone that everyone has the same right to circulate, but also the same duty to respect the rules,” he commented.

Cyclist Cristiano Oliveira praised the teams' work and emphasized the importance of sharing the space safely. “Traffic needs to be about coexistence. When drivers and cyclists respect each other, everyone wins. I thought it was great to see Detran here, talking to us and showing how to use the bike lane correctly,” he highlighted.

Cyclist Cristiano Oliveira congratulated the action and emphasized the importance of guidance for safer traffic

The activities are part of Detran's permanent traffic education program, which seeks to bring the agency closer to the community and reinforce its commitment to road safety. New actions are scheduled for the coming months, especially in areas of high movement and newly completed works.
