Polyclinic Lago de Tucuruí celebrates Pink October with information, support, and real stories of overcoming
With over 1,200 mastology consultations this year, the unit reaffirms its commitment to women's health and the early diagnosis of breast cancer

In reference to Pink October, a month dedicated to the prevention and awareness of breast cancer, the Polyclinic of Lago de Tucuruí held educational, informative, and supportive activities for its users on Monday (20). Lectures, playful actions, and the distribution of informational materials reinforced the unit's commitment to caring for life.
Organized by the Humanization Working Group (GTH), the initiative transformed the corridors of the Polyclinic into an environment filled with support and reflection. Among pink ribbons and gestures of empathy, every detail reinforced the message that self-care is an act of love and prevention, reminding everyone that health begins with attention and information.
Led by nurse Julyany Barrozo, the action presented warning signs and preventive care. The moment served to bring the community closer to the reality of breast cancer, where information is one of the most powerful tools for prevention and transformation.
"It is essential that everyone, women and men, know their bodies and pay attention to any changes. Breast cancer is curable, especially when detected early. Therefore, prevention and continuous care are great allies," emphasized the professional.

Mastology - The Mastology Service of the Polyclinic Lago de Tucuruí offers specialized evaluation, clinical follow-up, and referral for imaging tests, such as mammography, an essential tool in the early diagnosis of breast cancer. The initiative reinforces the commitment to ensure access to prevention, guidance, and comprehensive care for women's health.
Mastologist Dr. Bruna Pereira emphasizes that early diagnosis is crucial for the success of treatment. "Studies show that identifying breast cancer at an early stage increases the chances of cure by up to 95%. Prevention and early diagnosis are powerful allies in reducing mortality and improving the prognosis for patients," she explains.
According to the specialist, from the age of 40, annual mammography is recommended, a test capable of detecting changes that are still imperceptible to touch. "Changes in the skin or contour of the breasts, lumps, inversion of the nipple, or discharge should be investigated. Knowing your own body is the first step to taking care of your health," advises Bruna.
For the doctor, Pink October goes beyond a campaign: it is an invitation to reflection and self-care. "In the rush of everyday life, we often put our health on the back burner. This campaign reminds us of the importance of keeping up with exams and dedicating time to care for ourselves. Self-care is an act of self-love," she concludes.
From January to September 2025, the mastology department of the Polyclinic conducted 1,222 consultations, a number that reflects the growing demand for specialized care and the strengthening of the prevention network in the Lago region.

Stories that inspire and strengthen - Among the women followed by the mastology service of the Polyclinic, each story carries a mix of courage, learning, and faith. These are accounts that remind us that early diagnosis not only saves lives but also renews dreams and awakens inner strength.
Engineer Beatriz da Costa Vieira, 29, a resident of Tucuruí in the Lago region, discovered the importance of the mammography exam in a decisive way. "I think it is very important to have the exam, as it helps in early diagnosis. In my case, it was essential, as I was able to start treatment early, before it became something more serious," she reported.
Alessandra Lúcia Ramos, 26, also from Tucuruí, a social worker and digital influencer, believes that sharing experiences is a way to multiply care. "Talking about breast cancer is also breaking the silence and encouraging other women. When we share our stories, we inspire others to look at themselves with more love and attention," she stated.
Regulation - To access the services of the Polyclinic, it is necessary for the user to go through the regulation system, after initial care and evaluation in primary health care, such as health posts and Basic Health Units (UBSs). This ensures an equitable distribution of services, prioritizing those who need it most.
